Aromasin Vacation?

I have been on aromasin since 4/14. I do have side effects such as depression, poor sleep and joint pain, but frankly I have been able to tolerate them with some pharmalogic help. I am considering a month long vacation from the med while I am away on a trip. Any experience with this? Comments? Thanks D

I took anastrozole for about 1.5 years switched to exemestane. I starting year 4 and had severe dry eye and went on a permanent vacation. My eye completely healed and started losing the weight I gained on exemestane.

I took anastrozole for a little over a year before I complained enough about side effects that my MO had me take a month's vacation. She was certain that it wouldn't be a problem to take a break. Everything but the hot flashes went away or improved dramatically (and, to be fair, I had been having some hot flashes before I went on the AI) so I switched to exemestane at the end of that month

So far, so good! Hope whatever you decide works well for you!

Hi all, last fall I was switched to Exemestane after having a hysterectomy due to the Tamoxifen side effect of Endometrial cancer. The exemestane caused blood pressure increase, blood glucose went up, cholesterol went up, and i started having decreased finger sensitivity and I could not lose weight. I finally said enough was enough and stopped taking it. Now everything has turned around and labs are looking good. I feel much better overall, lost that foggy feeling. Just at a point where I don't trust pharmaceuticals, too many side effects that suck the life out of us. After 6 years ready to live a normal life.

Everyone is different. I've been on tamoxifen and exemestane for almost 7 years, with only a few side effects. Those were hot flashes and a little joint pain. I'm on the 10 year plan and doing fine.

I have been off over 2 years. I am finally starting to not have joint pain. It's still there from time to time but definitely improving. I have a new ENT doctor who can see why my ear is screwed up. It happened while I was taking anastrozole but I was also swimming alot too. Unfortunately, there isn't a treatment other than surgery to correct the problem. It isn't bad enough for me to try it, hear loss is common after the surgery so I said I'd live with it. The dry eye is completely healed, thank God. Right now I don't take any prescription drugs.

You are almost at 5 years. Take half dose, so that you don't have withdrawals during your vacation. Then just go back up, upon your return. In 6 months, you are finished, right?

Everyone sure is different! I have been on arimidex for over 2 months and doing fine. I continued taking a regular claritin ( MO approved) that I was on to help with neulasta joint pain during chemo. To be honest my body aches a little but I exercise and move so much I just feel like its that " good workout" feeling. Lifting weights daily. Walking/ jogging 3-7 miles a day. Just not thinking about it until my body let's me know. Feeling great! Not even wondering yet if I am on the 5 or 10 year plan. Will cross that bridge when or if I get there I guess. Do what works best for you!

Wow, DebAL, your exercise routine is amazing! I may do about half of that every day! Congrats!

hi pupmom. This diagnosis made me more selfish than ever lol Thankfully I am in a position to cut my work hours back a bit to make exercise a priority. The weekends are 6 or 7 mile fast paced walks. During the week I jog/walk 3 or 4. Only miss if I'm out of town. Just a little 15 min daily routine of stretching and lifting is all i do. I laugh because i am sore..i will assume it's from being so active rather than the pill. I hope you are doing well and your pup picture is adorable!

    FOBWBC,

I took a three week break when switching. Took 4 weeks off due to surgery last winter. All with my MO’s blessing.
