Late effects after multiple recurrences

Hi everyone. I am wondering about late effects of having multiple rounds of treatment after recurrences. Having had chemo two times I seem to be left with increasing problems with my bowels, specifically I now seem to have developed IBS and increasing sensitivity to certain foods. I am convinced this is due to the chemo and just wondered if anyone has had similar problems after multiple treatments.

Also anyone know of any research of late effects after multiple recurrences.

Thanks and love to everyone....

I Have had chemo twice. I have GERD, erosive esophagitis and gastritis, and severe abdominal pain after consuming any dairy. I do understand your issues

Thanks Karen. I believe that having had chemo treatment twice my digestive system has not recovered I.e, all the healthy bacteria has not reappeared. I take ranitidine regularly which helps the upper part but I have to be more and more careful about what I eat. Sugar seems to be a big problem now. I am following the FODMAP diet as much as possible. It’s not such a big deal really but does make me wonder that if I have another recurrence then I would want to know more about late effects of treatment. So little information out there for the increasing number of us who are having recurrences....

Hey KBeee, I seem to be more sensitive to dairy also! Though I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 20 (27 years ago next month). My risk of colon cancer should be higher - BUTT (get it...lol - dumb humor) I just had a clear colonoscopy with biopsies negative for dysplasia and don't go back for 3 years. Part in thanks I believe to the wonder drug Mesalamine. The version of it I take called Lialda has been my wonder drug. It stays 90% in the colon and reduces risk of colon cancer back to almost normal. Nothing about me seems normal in the last 6 1/2 yrs so I'll take it.

McCathyG - hang in there. I am a recurrence survivor - 2x chemo (KBeee was one of the women on here that kicked my behind into getting the diagnosis and follow up treatment going ASAP despite my denial and despair). I have had an imperfect digestive track but it's actually BETTER than it has been in a quarter of a century. Our bodies are amazing!
