Tamoxifen Hot Flashes and Effexor (Venlafaxine)

Options

Hi. I have been on Tamoxifen for about 4 months and the hot flashes are not getting any better (they may be getting worse). I have about 15-20 per day and night sweats. My onc suggested a low dose, 37.5 once per day, of Venlafaxine to help with the hot flashes. I really don't want to be on another prescription drug but am willing to try almost anything to decrease the hot flashes. Looking for some advice on starting this med. I take Tamoxifen once in the morning and once at night.

Can Venlafaxine be taken at the same time as Tamoxifen? Has anyone had success with this dose and a reduction in hot flashes? Any side effects?

Thanks for any feedback and info.

I was also prescribed venlafaxine (Effexor) for hot flashes. I started with 37.5 mg. After no improvement is was in creased to 75 mg then to 150 mg. No real help. Last month Gabapentin (300 mg)was added, once a day. That has now been increased to three times per day. I am finally getting some relief it definitely has with side effects such as dizziness, twitching of fingers and the feeling of being tipsy.

Hello. I was of the assumption that Effexor should not be taken with Tamoxifen as it inhibits the effectiveness of Tamoxifen with some women. I could be wrong, but ask your Pharmacist or google it on a drug interactions site. Hopefully you are able to take both without compromise. Best of luck with your treatment.
