Yes, Egads, I take my fitness VERY seriously! Nice work on those weights! Good to see you're lifting heavy things. 😊
I posted this on Diet and Lifestyle but it seems like it wasn't appreciated. I'll try here.
Pi-Xi wrote: I have been watching Chris Wark's Square One program this week. Thinking that some positive affirmation couldn't hurt, for the last couple days I have been saying "I am healthy. I am healed. I am well." Today over lunch my DH says "Add obnoxious to that list and you're one out of four!"

Pixidust - LOL!!! OMG, let’s never get our hubs together...we’d be toast!! I hope you served him his least fav dish for dinner, I have a few total flop recipes up my sleeve that I can pass along. One you could call Obnoxious Quinoa Surprise
))) I for one VERY much appreciate your post, lovedthat. Bet the cave chicks do too!

Hi all.
Don't know if this is paleo but it's simple and I like simple.
I found this recipe and am considering making some to freeze for after surgery but I cannot stomach tomatoes due to reflux. Does anybody have an idea for a alternative replacement? It can't be anything highly acidic, and I can't eat baked, boiled or mashed potatoes so that's out it's like eating something with drano for me.
I was considering maybe real small cut up butternut squash pieces? they have some in the freezer section now.
Also could I possibly replace bok choy for the cabbage as the local market seems to have a lot right now.
https://www.cookingclassy.com/cabbage-soup/
Thank you for any possible suggestion for alternatives.
Blessed be.

Hiya Jade! Your butternut squash replacement is a brilliant addition and so is the Bok Choy (one of my favs) Acid is generally added to 'lift' the flavour. When I had reflux (really bad) I just left tomatoes out and added a tablespoon of vinegar to a BIG pot of soup to replace the ‘lift’...never bothered my tummy. If you don’t want to risk it then just leave them out, the recipe looks yummy enough to eat without tomato. Add any extra seasonings you like, or chopped herbs to improve the flavour. Chunks of leftover chicken would give you a protein boost you need after surgery and round out the meal.
How are you doing? I haven’t forgotten about you, and I’m still working on those links we discussed in PM. Hugs
-
Thanks
They also have kidney or cannalenni beans as possible proteins so I was thinking kidney cheaper then chicken.Would apple cider vinegar work? It's a fall soup? I think they overbought the bok Choy which is why it's so cheap right now.I don't think I can handle Italian seasoning or garlic not with the stress I'm under feeding the volcano in my gut so maybe dill and parsley which is why I'm thinking a tbsp apple cider vinegar to give it a slight taste?
As for how I'm doing, Not so good. I posted in the surgery thread that they decided due to lifelong skin issues causing nonstop mini infections since puberty unless I want to go bigger they can't do nipple sparing so I'm losing them cause I want to go smaller. Im already all boobs and belly. don't need to make it worse.at least he thinks he can get a small perky C if my body doesn't reject or infect which he stresses is a bigger possibility due to the skin issues.
I'm also having issues with the surgeon due to the fact I have no help ( he says he wouldn't want someone even having no reconstruction on their own for two weeks minimum)and they have decided to boot me out morning after surgery whether I'm physically able or not. The patients are paying the price for the cost cutting measures done in this province.
I have no money I need to buy things like button up nightwear and shirts for recovery, I need an electric razor but can't afford one, I need a bed wedge but can't afford one. I need a lot of things but can't afford them.as it is I asked them to make sure the surgery is beginning of October if possible so I can buy the little I actually can get with the funds I receive monthly and I'm digging into my food money to do it. I'm ready to give up and I haven't even started yet. I can't even get a straight answer to what type of direct to implant they are going to do cause he "won't know until we are in there"
I keep hitting walls with local health care and nobody is telling me how to get past them just that I have to. That doesn't help me in anyway except to give me an even heavier burden then I already have. I'm bone tired.
I couldn't even find the energy, motivation and strength to do the a workout or nightly yoga today. I'm hoping the fact I walked around the city close to two hours with a heavy backpack negated that.
Silver lining the plastic surgeons office scale weighs one pound less then mine. Only bright spot in the day. As of July 14 I have dropped 16 pounds and lost 5 inches....on my chest... the things I'm amputating...3 on bust,2 band and apparently I have lost a couple inches on my hips cause my pants are feeling bigger( it goes up higher on my tummy now) but it doesn't look like it cause I was humongous there to begin with.
yep, only me man only me. Main place I lose is the place I'm going to literally lose in about 6 weeks. *sigh*
Probably just told you more then you wanted to know. Sorry.
Blessed be.

Egads - I have no idea what half those exercises you did are! LOL I had better stick to my basic's and increase as my body will allow!
PIXI - I also loved your post and not sure I understand why they other thread didn't appreciate it. It made me LOL at what DH said, reminds me of my own husband! Canadian men eh!
Jade - I'm afraid I don't know much about the American system - hopefully one of the other girls can chime in to give you some direction. Here is a link to an area for insurance and other financial information. https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Cooling-Fitness-Tow... I am so very sorry that you are going through this, do you have any support at home? Family? Friends? HUGS hun.
-
Jade sorry for your troubles. I think you are Canadian so not sure I have recommendations that translate since I am in US. Is there a charity you might reach out to? I know that Anerican Cancer Society helps out with some things-are they in Canada too? Or can your public health system provide a nurse to visit or perhaps you can go to a rehab facility rather than stay in the hospital. At US hospitals there are social workers who can assist with these types of issues. I didnt buy a lot of stuff. I used pillows and couch cushions to prop myself up and wore a Walmart zip up hoodie most if the time-it had inside pockets for drains, but I do think help at home is needed.
Just caught up on all the posts. On the topic of exercise, we have a lot of forest preserves in our county so I go walk on the trails. My favorite has a lake I walk around. I also bike in the summer but it is bothering my back a lot so maybe I should give that up. I sometimes try various at home work outs on youtube and I have barbells at home. Strength training is not my fav though. I prefer being outside so i have not ever joined a gym but say i will every winter. Oh and gardening and yard work. No one needs a gym if you have my yard!
Current challenge is I am getting sick and I am trying to stick to Paleo comfort food. Scratchy sore throat wanted ice cream. I made some orange mango juice and iced it up well and that soothed enough and got my vitamin C.
PiXi your smartass husband will keep you laughing. I love it.

Good day sunshines!!!!! See how good we are? We hang out in a cave but we still have sun!! *eye roll* Ok, enough of my Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm impersonation......
Jade - Yes, apple cider vinegar will do nicely.....any of the more mellow types like apple cider, rice wine vinegar etc. Dill and parsley sound peachy too....the great thing about soups like the one you posted is that you can basically throw the kitchen sink at it. I take it as an opportunity to clean out my fridge
))))) Kitchen Sink Soups are some of the best tasting. Darlin, walking around for 2 hours a day with a full backpack is so Paleo it's not funny.....it's some of the best exercise we can get....so you've got most of us beat! There must be a patient advocate department in your hospital that can get you resources....what hospital are you going through? Big hugs!!
Vamp - *drumming fingers on keyboard*….dude I posted videos on all those moves LOL!!!! You're so right....just keep doing what you are (which is awesome!) and slooooowly increase the weight. You'll notice the weight limits I push on the legs are Schwarzenegger and my upper body weight totals resemble Pee Wee Herman.....thanks lumpectomy!
))))))) We do what we can eh? Huggers!!
Pixidust - A secondary note to your post....I read it to my cavedude this morning and after LOL'ing he said: "I like that guy, we should go for a beer!" Vamp is right, it must be a Canadian guy thing
)))
-
Now for something completely different for Thursday.....
I earned my Five Year Wings.
-
I'm celebrating your wings here in Virginia, Egads! Here's to many, many more such celebrations! Now I need to backtrack & read all the posts I've missed. Sheez, skip one day & I find myself PAGES behind!
-
Went to the class last night. Good class, sweated my butt off despite the modifications! but did it! Nutrition mostly on point.. just one or two little snacks, but rest was healthy, clean. My hubby even had some mashed cauliflower for me!
Vamp, even though I danced as a child, I don't think Zumba would work for me either! And everyone needs a rest day... Oh, and no matter how thin I have been in the past or present, my thighs always "touch".. No gap for me! sigh...I put that on my Italian grandmother....
Egads, LOL $8 word! In US we would call it an "SAT" word! Credit my husband, he is a language buff...
tonight could be either dinner in NYC with work friends, or home and gym.... but thinking I want to save the $$ and calories this time around.

Vampeyes
I am Canadian so I don't have to pay for most healthcare but we don't have a choice in what specialists we get either especially in the province I live in. As far as I know no support whatsoever.
Two hobbies
If there are charities I don't know about them which is why the social worker could help but basically the attitude I'm getting from here is she wants someone else to take care of it. Problem is I live in a tiny place all I got is an old bed and a small no back storage bench that slides on the floor as a place to sit or lie down I sleep on a pile of pillows already for the reflux and by morning I'm at the bottom of the pile curled in a strange position around one of the pillows the rest have migrated elsewhere. That's going to be painful and a bad thing after surgery especially with drains. Which is why I need a wedge so I can use the other pillows as a wall. Hope you feel better soon.
Egads007
Thanks a cook I am not so I'm always unsure what works and what doesn't. I will try my kitchen soup sink sometime end of next week and will let you know how it goes. I haven't even heard of patient advocates locally. There might be but they got to be well hidden.
Congrats on your five years wings!
Blessed be y'all.
-
Egads, congrats on the wings! Celebrate it with some cauliflower crust pizza and a good laugh about SWYPO.
So, I saw my radiation oncologist yesterday. Yup, it’s rads for me. If I survive the next 2 Taxols, my first appt will be on Oct. 8. Only three weeks to recuperate after chemo! They are not wasting time here at MSK, I have to tell you. They put me up for the RadComp study (proton vs photon radiation). I wonder if I get elected for protons, if not, photons will work too.
Feeling much better today, actually. I think it’s because of acupuncture. Will go tomorrow for booster hedgehog session and on Monday as well. Say NO to neuropathy with the needles! That’s my new motto.
Will have sprouted bread, butter and smocked salmon sandwich now. Ssshhhh! You’ve seen nothing!
-
Thank you JKL, Inna (gd) & Jade!
TwoH - Happy about your exercise, not about you feeling poorly! Hope that ice cream helps...then again it usually does
feel better soon!
MAP - *high 5s* on the class! Slow and steady (or sweaty) wins the race! Vamp and your lovely self have given me inspiration for an interesting post on thighs...oooooh this could be fun!
Inna (godda davida) - you ‘sound’ good! Rads are a cakewalk compared to chemo, so chin up! Glad the acupuncture is helping...hedgehog sessions?!?!? ROFL! As for the bread, you’ve got that chemo get out of jail card, use it....and enjoy.
Jade - sent you a PM..we’ll get you hooked up
-
To make up for yesterday I did a 45 min resistance training low impact barefoot cardio mix with light weights (2 pnds) with a 40 min Mari winsors pink for Pilates with resistance band and then a 45 straight out low impact barefoot cardio (the actual DVD name this time) and right in the middle of the last one my ceiling fan light went pbbbbbt and burnt out. I actually said out loud "seriously???!!!"
Gonna try and keep that up or a similar routine of longer strength training with a follow up cardio until mid next week and then take a day off Thursday with just a 70 min walk (that's a round trip)to the library.with a backpack of books I have hopefully finished by then. I figure I got six weeks to get myself into better shape because I'm not going to be all that active a bit after surgery. I was told dependant on healing about 4-7 weeks because of my skin issues theybmight want me to wait a little longer to be sure infection doesn't set in.
When I feel tired while doing it I just keep saying "the less there is of me the less it's feeding the cancer"
Hopefully I'm right.
I won't be going this hard after surgery even after I get the ok to go back to regular workout routine. It will be resistance and cardio but may be with shorter DVDs and such. Right now I just want to strengthen my muscles and lungs as much as I can. I'm hoping it will make recovery easier.
But man am I really feeling it in my arms.
Now I'm gonna go have a banana...
Egads007
Answered it
ETA:ok am I giving off electrical energy because two lights are burnt out my floor lamp one is out too.
-
Mazel tov on 5 years!
Jadedjo, how crazy-making. Is there something like American Cancer Society there that could help with resources?
Inna, I'm hoping my scan today will be negative and I can move forward with acupuncture for pain. Best of luck with rads. I had very little trouble until near the end, and even that wasn't bad.
MAP, I am the substitute peer instructor when the real Zumba instructor is out. I have no hot moves and I'm not graceful. I don't do high impact and vertigo keeps me from doing some of the drops and turns. We still have a great time. It's the least body-shaming gym activity I've ever done. Plus my undergraduates appear to be impressed that I know Demi Lovato lyrics.
Two H, I hope you feel better soon.
-
Ksusan
Fingers crossed for a negative clear scan.
I'm not hopeful as nobody around here wants to do more then they actually have to but I will try.
-
-
Jade - Links are in your PM. Be the squeaky wheel until you get the grease you need. If you want any help calling I'd be more than happy to help in that way, just let me know. Gee....you're working so hard that you're blowing out lightbulbs. I'm going to have to up my game and see if I can at least cause a brown out at the gym
))) Enjoy the hell out of that banana!
Ksuze - Oy vey, you're a mensch! Thank you! Scan? Pain? Crossing fingers it goes well.....please let us know. Lyrics.....I was carrying some laundry into my son's room years ago and started to sing along to the tune playing on his TV, a commercial for something or other in which they used Men Without Hat's song Safety Dance. My son looked shocked and said "hey, how do you know this song???". When I replied "because I danced to it while clubbing when I was about your age". He said "No way.....they didn't have music like that in the olden days". Olden days, yeah. I said "for sure, I used to go clubbing in a horse drawn carriage". He shot back "more like when the wheel was invented". Oh the joys of parenthood, does wonders for the self esteem.
-
Egads - I wanted to insert a Leo DiCaprio gif and it wouldn't let me, soooo CONGRULATIONS on being 5 years clean! xxxx
MAP - so cowboy walking is forever - darn genes did not di me any favours! I swear they go up and down in size daily, so maddening!
Jade - I am in Ontario and I switched oncologists because mine was a blinded jackass. I suppose now I am marked in the file as that girl, but I don't care, the stuff he wrote about me was way off base. My therapist even stated he should work in research and not with people. So if your in Ontario it's definitely possible to switch.
I didn't exercise today, I cleaned 2 houses and the inside of the truck, I am beat.
-
Egads, a huge congratulations on your five year wings!!! I hope to make that happen for myself, but trying to enjoy everyday meanwhile.
My husband gets special rights to say those sorts of things as he is the main food prepper! When I'm working, he does it 100%. 😍
-
So probably when you are the person who is doing intervenous injections, you shouldn't say to a patient, "This has been a bad day for IVs so far." She was pleasant and careful, but still. As for me, the vein blew out during the injection of radioactive material. Wouldn't have wanted to break the streak! My arm is a bit swollen, so manual lymphatic drainage alternating with slurping down fluids for 3 hours. I am eating a fruit cup with lunch, damn it.
-
Thank you for the congrats Vamp & Pixidust!! Hugs!!
Ksuze - I'm either failing in the memory department or just feeble minded as per usual re: your scan, my big bad! Oh I hear ya in the blood draw! When I had to get weekly blood draws during chemo I was always put with a VERY nice lady who I called Dracula. Always left with a plate sized bruise that made peeps think I was a battered woman. During one MRI prep one of my veins blew and the guy blamed my vein. If anyone gets an MRI at North York General and has room #3, the blood spatter on the ceiling is me waving at you:))))) when are results in for you Ksuze? Why are you hating on the fruit cup?
Pixidust - Oh you'll make 5 years hun, and MANY more....you're too much fun to let any nasties take over!
Vamp - So you're 'that girl' in the files LOL...did you know you have a theme song and vid starring Marlo Thomas (Danny Thomas's daughter, old school celebs)? Here you are dashing off to your Onc appointments:
-
Radioactive injection for bone scan a bit under an hour from now. Rule out mets to clavicle (the likely outcome is that it's increased pain from port scar areas, but I'm not about to kick up more pain treatment until somebody checks that it's not mets).
Don't get me started on my horrible experience at an infusion center the first time I had to get iron infusions before chemo! I try to keep that stuff out of threads where I might frighten newbies.
I actually just read Dracula. Sorry for your experience with his bride!
I heroically have not had a muffin despite great provocation.
Edited to say I don't know when I'll have results.
-
Ksuze - we're sitting right there with you in spirit! Crossing fingers toes and even eyes that it goes smoothly...and results are clear!! You're probably right about the port!
*high 5s on putting the kibosh on the muffin, betcha’ Mr. Stoker would have too
-
ksusan, a bone scan and no muffin? I take it the offering was not homemade? I've gone on record here about my love of the muffin. 😍
Wishing you good results!
-
Thank you. Home now, continuing MLD and flushing my system.
Copied from a different thread:
The scan will have been read by now, but it will go to my oncologist, who doesn't work Fridays. They think the results will show in my portal in about three working days. The technician did the scan, then told me that I had enough of the radioactive dye still in my arm that it was interfering with the reading on my chest. He had me put my arms over my head and did another scan. I will attempt to work on the assumption that this was an accurate statement. The alternative, of course, is that he saw something and needed to image it a second time. So this freaks me out a little bit, but I am going to work hard to assume that all is well and not borrow trouble
-
Morning Cave Chicks!
Ksuze - Nothing like scans to make our minds turn to the dark side eh?.....so easy to do. I know I scrutinize the tech's facial expressions and body language, all in the hopes of getting instant results. For me, I'd say I experience some PSTD at every appointment/test.....I have to admit that even walking through the doors of a medical facility makes me feel emotionally itchy....I want out fast. I'm getting better at it, but not sure if I'll ever stop reading into the tech's face or words. What you describe with the arm/dye issue sounds VERY plausible. I've had reimaging tons of times (to get a better view as they said, or clearer image) and it's always turned out to be fine. Run on your assumption of port, because it sure sounds like it. If you're sweating it, well, post away. We're here to see you through to results.....lean on us whenever you please! Hugs!
-
Ug! Hugs to everyone with bad blood draws and infusion injections, etc. I have been very blessed with the techs in my treatment. I have barely felt the sticks, (almost every time they use a baby butterfly needle!)
My chemo nurse was THE best! She was gentle and observant and just plain awesome. never felt a stick. And she gave me her cell to reach out with any issues, even post treatment.. I love Summit Medical Group in NJ..
Today I have my 6 month MRI. Hate them... always get a little claustrophobic. My mamo a few weeks ago came back clean..My stress tests came back clean.. So, hears to 3 for 3!
-
All good, MAP!
Thanks, Egads. I appreciate the support. My previous work in hospitals, and the general quality of my care, sees to have inoculated me against too much PTSD.
