Hi Lorilat:
I haven't had cancer treatmen at KGH but I have had many treatments there over the years. I grew up in Kelowna. My two sons were born there.
I live in Ontario now. But my sister who is still in Kelowan has had friends with breast cancer treated there. Very good care and positive and upbeat. My father was also treated there for lung cancer.
You will be well taken care of. God Bless.

Hi Lori,
Just receiving treatment in B.C., you have the best docs and nurses. I had my surgery and chemo in Vernon, but I went to Kelowna for my radiation treatments.
Anyone that has gone to Kelowna for any treatments, raves about the professional, caring support from the volunteers, doctors, nurses & technicians.
KGH has so much at their fingertips, if you have any questions or concerns, just ask your oncologists or nurses. Let me know what you think when you start up your treatment.
Hugs
Barb
Diagnosed October 2003, with grade 3/3 IDC 2.8 cm& 2 positive lymph nodes. Triple negative.
I chose lumpectomy with lymph node removal, 6 rounds of FEC and radiation. -
sorry for the late response but I haven't been online for awhile. I guess I should have been more specific about KGH. I meant Kingston General Hospital in Ontario, but thank you for your responses.
I will be going to meet my oncologists in a couple days and I guess I will find out what is next for me. I'm feeling a little more confident now that everything is going to work out fine.

I had chemo at BGH (Belleville General) July - Dec and had radiation at KRCC at KGH in Feb. I found the staff wonderful at KGH. After an hour drive to Kingston each day it helped to see their smiling faces. Good luck with your treatment.

I did chemo in Belleville but rads in Kingston. They have been fantastic!!!! and even the receptionists will make a point of learning your name. I was surprised considering the Cancer Centre in Kingston is so large. Peter Froud is my onc. there - he is one of the pioneers of the cancer movement in Ontario and has always taken the time I've needed to express myself/my concerns, etc. I've heard Dr. Shelley is very kind as well.
A word of advice: ask for early treatments (8:00 a.m. or earlier if you can bear it) or early evening (6:00 p.m.) cuz parking is atrocious at KGH.
Good luck to you.

Hello to my Canadian sisters!!! I am from the states, but my family has a summer cottage not far from Kingston.... in a little town called Westport on the Big Rideau. I have grown up in the summers in Canada, so I couldn't resist checking out this forum for Canadian breast cancer survivors. I was dx on March 3, (which just happens to be my best friends-who lives in Ottawa- birthday) I am scheduled for a mastecetomy and reconstruction on May 1st. I am hoping and praying however, that during my treatment over the summer I'll make it up to my most FAVORITE place on earth........Ontario, Canada!!! Good thoughts and Happy Spring to everyone!!!
