Had mammogram today
I went in for a mammogram for my palpable lump today. After 5 pictures the radiologist wanted another picture so had to do another one. Waited around for my ultrasound, they had me wait for the radiologist to look at the ultrasound pictures so I could get my results before leaving. The tech called me back in after talking to the radiologist and said he believes it is a benign fibroadenoma and wants me to come back for mammograms and ultrasounds every 6 months for 2 years.
My sister wants me to push for a biopsy since he said he believes it’s benign instead of being certain it’s benign. It has already grown twice but they don’t have anything to show what it started out as. Anyone have any thoughts or advice for me?
Thank you all

Hi there Jam. My only advice is to get a copy of your mammogram and ultrasound reports so you can see for yourself what they say. DJMammo has posted a list of "good" and "bad" words, which I've pasted below. Then if your results look good, yes, I'd wait six months.
GOOD words in a mammogram or ultrasound: Oval; parallel; circumscribed; anechoic; hyperechoic; isoechoic; posterior enhancement or good through-transmission; avascular; macrocalcifications include pop corn, large rod like, rim, milk-of-calcium.
BAD words: Irregular; non-parallel (can also be written as "taller-than-wide"); not-circumscribed margins includes indistinct, angular, microlobulated, and spiculated; hypoechoic; posterior shadowing; architectural distortion; internal vascularity; microcalcifications including amorphous, coarse heterogeneous, branching, fine pleomorphic. -
Thank you Georgia. The tech said I will get a copy of the report in the mail. I am hoping I’ll have it at some point next week. I think I’m fine for now waiting the 6 months, unless it grows again before that. Thank you so much for posting the good and bad words here so I don’t have to search for it once I get a copy of the report.

So I finally got my results and it hardly says anything. I have one good word and one bad word and the size and location of the mass.

jam- you can post a copy of ithe report over in the topic “interpreting your report” and hopefully djmammo will chime in with his knowledge to help you decipher what it all means.
