A big shout out of THANK YOU to all you divine ladies! You truly make my heart sing!

JKL - you cracked me up! That was a damned fine imitation of Carvey, and if I may respond in my best Church Lady voice "now that was spec-ial"! ;))) Glad to see the funk has lifted off us both!

Ksuze - big hugs...food infodump coming soon!

KathBaby - big hugs to you too! Did you catch the challenge I threw at you earlier? Care to take a dare? ;)))

Pixi(dust) - I mis-read your reply and thought you’d said “nothing beats a good colonoscopy”...to which I said right out loud “damn girlfriend, you need more fibre” I got it right after reading it again, and ROFL’ing at my stoop-idity! :)))) hugs!

Vamp - I have no doubt it’ll work for you...you got this! Hey! No report on the great tomato processing caper?

Thank you all again....such awesome peeps you be

Will wait for the pic. Feeling crappy right now, although in the morning I thought I felt better. Body aches made their appearance. Took Tramadol. Watched Downton abbey. What is it about this show that keeps me coming for more, I’ll never understand. It has to be the accent. And the fashions. Every accent in English sounds better that mine, that’s for sure. As for the fashions, please. The last time I was out of my sweats and a t-shirt was months ago. Ok, I got it, this show has what I sorely lack: class, beauty, and weird food. Kidney soufflé sounds disgusting to me, although I do love chopped liver. All the sandwiches are crustless. Salmon mousse sounds promising, though. Ok, I hear the dressing gong, time to change into my pajamas and watch another episode.

Inna (godda davida) - historical dramas are some of my favs. Downton being one of them. I think it's the beauty of the filmography, costumes and romance of the era more than the actual storyline that draws me in...great way to escape isn't it? Lol@ weird food, think I covered that with my cricket muffins;))) I might have mentioned it before (not sure) but check out Upstairs Downstairs...British series from the 70s based in the Edwardian era...covers the lives of an upscale family and their staff...hence the title. Think you would like. Try youtube if Netflix doesn't have it....or PM me and I'll hook you up. Now, as for your 'no class or beauty' statement, oh yes you do! I see it in your posts my friend....it shines through your words, your strength to battle the taxol, and the cancer. There isn't anything to compare to the beauty of all our determination...the kind of beauty that's evident even in sweats and a tee. Don't doubt that for a minute!! So no more thinking that...you're beautiful to us! Sleep sweet darlin!

KathBaby - atta' girl! Woot! Day one down, 3 to go....you rock! Keep us posted on the progress! You're going to kill it...and then we can all brag about it :))) Proud of day one...hope you are too!

Ksuze - May I say that I'm green with envy at your brie. My FAV cheese....but my tummy is a cruel stepmother that won't allow it....that is until she's not looking, sneak a piece, and then hear my colon say "told ya so!" the next day. *sigh* have a bite for me please?? ;)

JuneBee - Thank you sweetie! Hope everything is moving along smoothly at the Mayo....thanks so much for the updates, keep em' rolling!

Loveroflife - Hiya!!! Thanks for the well wishes, and OH EM GEE I love those penguins fellas!! Exactly how I felt yesterday, thanks for the .gif!

Like clockwork, I'm here again to stir up more controversy....just because it's.....

TWO CENT TUESDAY - DROP YOUR DRAWERS, but don't enjoy yourself!

During one of my recent Google recipe search sessions I came across a community board for Whole30 peeps. To explain, Whole30 is a diet program developed back in 2007 and is a mirror image of hardcore Paleo….no sugar, alcohol, grains, legumes,or dairy. The first 30 days are spent strictly adhering to the compliant foods only, and then after the month is up,foods are slowly reintroduced back, depending on the individuals particular health needs. On the whole (excuse the pun) the diet is an excellent way to eat.

While reading through the Whole30 community threads I saw a member refer to a recipe being SWYPO. SWYPO?? Well you know I just HAD to Google that puppy! What I found got my hackles up. SWYPO translates into 'sex with your pants on' and is used to label recipes or foods that don't comply with the party line, AND are a poor tasting substitute for the real thing.

Example: Don't eat that Paleo pizza, it's a yucky tasting replacement. …it's like having sex with your pants on….it might be OK but nothing like the real thing. To add insult to injury the 'rules' also forbid taking compliant foods, mixing them together and making any type of baked savory or sweet.

Soooooo, it's ok to eat coconut and eggs but don't you dare mix them together! The W30 founder's theory is that it will be a poor second to the 'real thing' but it will also lead peeps to busting loose from the barn and beat a path over to the local pizza parlor. They say it will then be followed by an orgy that includes a large wheat crusted pepperoni n' cheese pie. PULLLEEEAASSEE….give me a break…..are they serious?? Were we not given brains? Are we not free thinking intelligent evolved beings??

I get their point, and must say that I agree (somewhat) that it's best to obstain when going wheat/sugar/dairy free……especially in the beginning. Some peeps might find it tempting to bake over their caloric needs. You've often see me post 'save it as a treat'. Eating baked goods often can hamper your goals…..as it can with ANY eating regime. Moderation, moderation, moderation. In the end that moderation MUST be YOUR choice.

What got my goat was the almost smarmy edge to the SWYPO mantra being tossed around the threads and the Whole30 website. They called SWYPO the 'paleo-fication' of whole foods. Now THAT statement got me steamed, especially considering that Whole30 is a replica of Paleo.

    Some other Whole30 Statements/Rules:

    • It's only 30 days, it's not hard! (I stared hard at this and blinked a lot)
    • Do this because it's good for you (but mom, I don't wanna eat my broccoli!) I might add that there was no scientific evidence or studies added to this statement…..pure opinion only. I want the facts!
    • Do not weigh or measure yourself for 30 days (go right ahead and suck the fun out of the experience)
    • No recreating baked good or junk food (well…they at least got it 50% right)
    • The paleo-ification of baked goods is like having sex with your pants on (I don't know what your idea of sex is, but I dare you to try my orange almond cake and tell me your mouth isn't totally turned on!
    • Many, many other statements that would have made this post even longer than it is (ain't nobody got time lol)

    STATEMENT TO THE WHOLE30 FOUNDERS:

Can you spell hypocrite? You spout SWYPO in reference to Paleo as if it was a disease, yet YOUR RECIPE section includes all sorts of goodies….the first one I might add includes a ¼ cup of maple syrup…..yet a cauliflower pizza crust is a big paleo-ified no-no? Why the heck are there baked good recipes on your website in the first place?? Isn't that like dangling a cream filled croissant in the newbies face? Do NOT assume I can't control eating habits. Do NOT put restrictive and ridiculous 'rules' on folks and make up kitchy acronyms suggesting that what I eat is just ok tasting and wrong. Big rules and big restrictions lead to most weight loss attempt failures.

I cannot stress enough that Whole30 peeps are eating right…excellent in fact. What I object to is the strict, almost intelligence insulting, rules and regs put forth by the program founders and their approach.

I have a feeling I'm going to take one to the head for this post, and I'm ready for it *rolling up into a ball*…..so what say y'all?

(Disclaimer: this post is NO way, shape or form, levelled at the Whole30 community, simply it's Founders and what I feel is some of their obnoxious rules. Whole30 IS an excellent eating regime....basically because it's Paleo :))))) Feel free to bash away if you're offended. We work things out in the Cave)

Hello All, I am way too tired to comment on any post I missed. Life has been busy and last night was filled with sleepless hours.

I have to say there are just too many rules for the Whole 30 plan, the only one I am currently following is the not weighing myself - too depressing. haha. SWYPO - REALLY? Couldn't come up with something easier or better?

My hairdresser is doing Ideal Protein and she told me that she is not allowed coconut, not even the oil. Thank kind of blew my mind seeing as it is so much better for you.

The problem with "it's only 30 days" is it's not, it's a lifestyle change, you can't do just 30 days and go back to your old ways. I got a friend that is suppose to be close to Paleo, but she is allowed Legumes, her doctor told her now to cut out sugar. I asked how it was going, "too much work and too expensive", yet this is to help her back pain (she had surgery on it 6 years ago I think and she is severely over weight). Another friend that is quite overweight is taking the new magic pill on the market because she doesn't want to give up food. Now I struggle some days and unfortunately there are days when temptation or the craving (stupid PMS) wins out and I cave, but I try because I want to feel better and be healthier.

Tomato canning is going slowly. Have to do them as they ripen, thankfully the twins have been a wonderful help. Today is day 3 of canning. First day just regular sauce, yesterday and today Marinara. Still have Pizza Sauce and Salsa to do yet, next week for those. Time to get back to it.

Edited to ask - how the heck do you lose 1 lb and 6.5 inches without changing you eating habits and taking a pill? WTF!

Vamp - Hope you post pics of all your tomato-y goodness! You said “The problem with "it's only 30 days" is it's not, it's a lifestyle change, you can't do just 30 days and go back to your old ways.“....and I couldn't agree more. As for your question...I suppose if the pill was a pre-surgical anaesthetic and they cut 6.5 inches off, it would be possible. Otherwise it's just the usual lip service weight loss scammers use to sell product ;)))

Inna (godda davida) - time for the big reveal...and a huge thank you for your Szechuan Chicken recipe from last Friday!! Looks nothing like the pic from your book, but who cares...it was fab-u-los!!

    image

I put it 'to bed' on ginger fried cauli-rice. The only change I made was to add green beans, Thai ghost pepper ('cause we're freaks), and a touch of honey. My caveman loves you, wants to marry you, and has re-named the dish INNA'S KICKIN' CHICKEN!

Highly recommend this dish to all the Cave Chickies!!

Egads, where is the rest of the meal?

I had this (grilled prawn, beef, portabella mushroom, over avocado cucumber salad) last week and heard your whisper, " Good job Loveroflife."

    image

And heard the whisper again when I had a burger with lettuce bun last Saturday. I actually felt good afterwards which surprised me because I thought my tummy would protest as usual with beef.

I won't confess what I just had for dinner though because you ladies confess on Mondays right?

Excellent rant, Egads. Judging from my Facebook keto page, most people are very bad at sticking to a plan, or even moderation. It's interesting to think about developing reasonable habits vs. getting locked into rules.

I haven't tended to eat things like Tofurkey, but for my wife, who can no longer manage dairy, cheese substitute are very helpful.

I myself have had excellent sex with my pants on, thanks very much. So there's that.

    image

Your meal looks amazing! Thanks for posting! Gorgeous surf and turf! So maybe your problem isn’t the beef, could be the bun. Time will tell. You actually heard me whispering???? So cool! I keep telling my caveman that I’m the Paleo Whisperer...unfortunately he says “whisperer? More like Paleo Hollerer!” ;))))

I love this thread, it cracks me up as I sit here drinking my coffee. I wish I was as witty as you all are. Best I can do is tell one of my kids terrible jokes that makes you smile..... Want to hear a construction joke? I'm still working on it. hahahahahaha

As for the inches lost that was my friend telling me this. I wonder if she measured differently, different spot, even off a tad will make a difference.

You know I was thinking of our colonoscopy lover and have to say nothing really beats a good clean out.

Inna - check out the The Crown on Netflix, I fell in love with it, found myself constantly googling to see if things were really true. haha Hope you are feeling well today. xxx

*clinks coffee mug with Vamp* Let me tell you something girly girl, you've made me LOL on a regular basis. You ARE witty.....y'all are!! I guess that's what I love about this thread too.....we're a great little community of smart & sassy peeps....makes my day. Vamp, you in particular should respond to my next words....speak up please, I believe you have bragging rights today!

WORKOUT WEDNESDAY is upon us again!

Let's mix it up! Let's hear from the mighty cave chicks! Let's talk about our personal workouts!

What does your exercise regime consist of? What are your goals? What is your fav move.....which ones are you hating on?

I'll post mine later....I do believe that Vamp should kick this off.....she's deserves the Paleo Princess crown and Scepter!

    *back to my coffee, cheers!*

p.s. Vamp, on average it takes 7-10 lbs weight loss to lose an 1' from the waistline (and is exactly what I experienced). Your bud is either measuring wrong, lost more weight than she knows, or is kidding herself. A 6.5" waist reduction from 1lb of weight loss sounds pretty near impossible to me.....if it's the truth I want the name of that pill :))))))

Egads, thanks for inviting me to your thread. I will go back a little further in the threads to get to know you all a little better. I got to "intestinal fortitude" and thought hey I can contribute to this group! I have had Crohn's for over 30 years. After a colon resection 25 years ago thankfully i have been asymptomatic. I get colonoscopies every 3 years now so I'm pretty much an expert. I hate the prep but enjoy the good buzz of sedation beforehand! I also tend to schedule right before a beach trip. Nothing like a good cleanse to get you as beach body ready as possible! Nice to meet everyone and bottoms up!!

Egads, glad you liked the recipe! As for getting divorced and married to your own cave dude, I'm afraid he's used to much better looking food than what i'm serving. Your pictures look amazing! Yours too, Ksusan and Loveroflife!

I don't want to post what my food looks like right now. It's been mostly smoked fish and brown rice for the past 8 days. Chemo altered my taste buds big time. It's been mostly salt, butter, quinoa, brown rice and buckwheat for me. I must've eaten a ton of smoked, pickled or canned fish for the past 2.5 months. I do eat fruits and cooked veggies, but not as much as I have to. Can't wait for this ordeal to be over and go back to normal food.

Vamp, I did watch The Crown and loved it!

Have an appointment with a radiation oncologist now, so must get up on my wobbly legs and get my butt out of the door. See you later!

Hi All! I'm BAAACCCKKK! I was on vacation in VT and completely off the wagon! Did a hike or two, drank wine, went swimming in a waterfall..

Had 2 stress tests, regular and nuclear.. both came back negative.. so, it ain't my heart! 6 month MRI on Friday..

Got back to nutrition and the gym yesterday. (although, i really have to stop having those few cookies in mid afternoon...) today, I have celery and hummus for a mid afternoon snack.. Gym kicked my butt last night! My cardio is for crap... so. I feel like I"m starting from scratch.. But, did it before, will do it again.

Too much to go back and read everything, but I did see Egads had good test results! YAY!!!

Deb (bora bora) :) - WOOT! So glad you found your way over......Cave Chicks, you're going to looooove this lady! Her sense of humor has had me spraying coffee at the screen all over the boards....yup, Deb is hoot! Apparently she has a nice clean colon too....what more could we ask for?? Better be careful Deb, you know about those colon prep 'remnants'....wouldn't want you to experience that at the beach! I would imagine the beach body would be far outweighed by the resulting 'accident'....in a bikini no less. Make ya' as popular as a skunk at a square dance!! :)))) Bottoms up, LOL, gotta luv ya! Stick around kid, so many of us here have the GI thang happening, we could use your insight!

Inna (godda davida) - Hun, I don't think my cavedude would give a flying fig about presentation. His reaction to your recipe tells me I'm skating on thin ice. Have to warn you though, he creates enough laundry to keep you busy for decades. Tell you what, we can share, if you do the cooking I'll do the laundry :))))) I'm sure your pics would be FINE. I love smoked fish! I used to love quinoa, so post away!! Please let us know how the Onc Rad appointment goes....hope it's not to hard on you, hang in, hugs!!

MAAAAPPPPPPPP!!!! - Welcome back dollface! You were missed! Drank wine and swam in a waterfall?!?!?! Now I'm jealous :))) Bet it felt like you were living on the cover of a travel brochure! Any vakay pics to share?? HOORAYY on the stress test results! Keep us posted on the MRI! The cardio/gym loss will soon be made up....babysteps...yes you WILL do it again! Welcome back hugs!!

Egads, you sure know how to make a gal feel welcome!! I'm bad at taking pics, I leave that to the hubby.. Plus, we go almost every year, so the pics would be somewhat similar year to year! Also, i mostly post from my work laptop which isn't conducive to uploading pictures! If I post from my phone, I'll try to get one in.

Tonight work out is "Strength and Conditioning" circuit training. Full body workout at the Y. We'll see how it goes.. New class for me...

Question for those who get the wonderful hot flashes....Do you feel a bit chilly about 5 or so minutes before that full on flash?(which is more like 10 minutes than a "flash"!!!

I have about 20 minutes of floor and exercise ball PT exercises, plus stretches, plus kegels/core engagement every day, 2 rounds of manual lymphatic drainage, and Zumba more days than not. The Zumba is 1 hour (1-3 times a week) and 1.5ish hour (2 classes) twice a week. I do high intensity but low impact (for example, I keep my arms in the air but don't jump). Sometimes I work on my laptop on a slow treadmill, and when the weather is nice, I walk.

Welcome Deb! I look forward to reading your witty posts as much as the others. A clean colon - can't get much better than that! I am afraid I have a bit of a dirty one, no colonoscopies for me in years. \

Map - glad to see you back, what a wonderful sounding vacation - wine and waterfalls - beautiful!

Inna - I can't wait till the next season comes out, hopefully it's not too long of a wait!

ksusan - I tried that Zumba - one I always pronounce it wrong, to me Zoomba should be spelt Zoomba not Zumba, must be the Americans pronouncing it with those funny accents. hehe Anyway I have two left feet and no coordination, I was a ridiculous mess dancing on the floor distracting the other Zoombaers, so I gave up. It's me, my step and my bike.

Egads that 6.5" was total inches of wherever she is measuring. Wish my legs would shrink that fast! One thing I can't stand is walking naked like a cowgirl because I can't handle them rubbing together! I was blessed with my grandmothers side of big hips and legs, small waist so my pants are always annoying me at the waistline from the belt cinching them in.

Today we got the last of the tomatoes (for this week) boiling and off I went to my basement to do step with weights the 60 minute video. Holy Hannah do my arms and legs hurt, but I carried forward and finished the video. In the past week I have come up quite a bit with the stamina, I am likely going to crash hard and soon! Last Wednesday I did the Step and Weights 40 minute, Thursday did a house clean with the twins help and the 40 minute video again, cleaned 2 houses on Friday - the twins helped out at one, took a rest day on Saturday, Sunday I did the 40 minute video and surprisingly that afternoon I felt up to a bike ride - hadn't done that in 2 months and I use to be quite the avid rider - got in a 12km ride, Monday I decided to try the harder 60 minute Step and Weights video - went good, yesterday I figured my workout was lifting 3 boxes of gym flooring from the store to the truck to the house to the basement and laying it was a good enough workout for the day. My hunger has increased - not cool! Kept me up the one night, very frustrating. I don't want to be hungry, can't my body just feed off the fat in my huge legs??? That would be ideal.

Time to go dump the tomato "poop" in the field. That's what the twins call it, ever since they were little they have helped me can.

    Have a wonderful day ladies.

You've been doing great, vampeyes! Also important that you threw in a rest day. When you're using more energy, it is natural to be hungrier. I'm sure Egads will be by to give you some advice. If I increase my activity, I need to increase my carbohydrate consumption and add in more fruit or something that has health benefits.

Awesomeness!!!! Love reading about the moving and shaking that you all do! Hope you're proud of your hard work, I am!

Map - Conducive....that lady is an $8 word!! (I have a love for language) Hope the class went well, and sending anti-DOM vibes your way, let us know how it went please:)) I get very few flashes per day now, but notice they happen if I go from AC to the outdoors. Also immediately following a shower, or after applying expensive skin care or makeup...you know, just when you need to sweat the most *eye roll* Hot flashes are directly linked to inconvenience IMHO ;)

Ksuze - That's a great program you have going...love the treadmill work walk thing...you've given me fitness inspiration and will give it a shot...hope my laptop survives:)))

Vamp - only a short while ago you were down and out for the count...all those health issues, lost your dear step-dad, trying new eating habits and struggles with pulling a fitness regime together...look at you now!!! You've taken huge leaps and bounds forward...you are a shining example. So proud of you!! Don't judge the need for a rest day as a failure, it's not a loss, it's a VERY necessary and important way to go. Top athletes take rest days, so should you. As for the appetite, PIXI (dust) is 100% correct. Your calories (and yes carbs) MUST increase on workout days...unless you want to lose muscle mass. I'll PM more boring info ;))) Do us all a favour please...EAT SOMETHING if you can't sleep because of hunger...your body is literally screaming for food if it's interrupting sleep. Oh yeah, starving yourself will also hold onto weight or even make you gain. 'Nuff said. Tomato poop?!?! ROFL!!

PIXI (dust) - excellent dead-on advice to Vamp...you covered it nicely! Sounds like you take your fitness seriously...which is 9 shades of cool!

Inna (godda davida) - Thinking of you...I bet the appointment was exhausting for you...hoping it went well, let us know when you can. Gentle hugs!

Ok, so after seeing all the action in here today it made my workout tonight that much more enjoyable...felt like I was working right along with the cave crew!!

    3 sets each, 15 reps:

    Static lunges w/50 lbs

    Goblet squats w/40 lbs

    Glute bridges w/60 lbs

    Sumo deadlift w/60 lbs

    Leg press w/235 lbs

    Hip abduc w/190 lbs

    Hip abb w/ 130 lbs

Push ups off smith machine w/body weight

    Seated row w/65 lbs

    Dumbbell row w/ 25 lbs

    Bench press w/45 lbs

Cardio - split between 4 machines 40 mins, HIIT 60 seconds every 3 mins average.
