How often do you take Omperazole (Prilosec)?

Do you take it daily or just around the time of your infusion.

Because I get rebound reflux and develop resistance to PPIs the longer I take them, I have been starting the Prilosec the day before the infusion and continuing it for about five days but I get reflux anyway starting the day after the infusion and have to take Zantac as well, though not before my throat has been scortched. I'm wondering if I need to start taking it farther out.

I tried to go without Prilosec early in my treatment but just couldn't. I've actually been on it nonstop since about my 3rd round of TCH. I'm currently on Day 13 following my final round and I'll probably try to stop it again around Day 21. Even with the daily Prilosec I was routinely having to take Pepcid AC on my worst SE days. Usually Day 5-9.

    duffyzmom:

Thanks for the reply. I realized after my last infusion was delayed that the dexamethasone alone was giving me reflux so I started the Prilosec four days before the dexamethasone. I had my infusion Thursday, took the last Prilosec Saturday morning and a Zantac around 4am. I probably could have used another day of Prilosec because I am on the verge of reflux but hopefully another Zantac will put me in the clear later.

Congratulations about being on your final round of chemo btw! I am on number 4 of 6 rounds of TCHP.
