Hi all. I’m so afraid. I was told I have DCIS high grade. The radiologist was surprised the report didn’t show invasive cancer. She thought it would be by looking at the mass. She said it’s not positive for estrogen or progesterone. She said more results may come in the next day or 2 regarding other receptors. I have an appt tomorrow morning with a surgeon/ oncol at Cooper MD Anderson in NJ. I am so afraid of what they will tell me. Any words of wisdom are appreciated. I’m a wreck

Tinkerbell, I'm sorry for your test results, but I think you'll will find help and comfort here. The hardest time is between diagnosis and the development of a treatment plan--right where you are now--but I'm glad you can see a surgeon already tomorrow. I'll let someone with DCIS weigh in with more information of what to expect, but I do hope and pray all goes well for you. ((((Gentle Hugs))))

Tinkerbelle, you have come to right place for learning about what is going on with you and to get great support. It's super scary at first but all breast cancer is treatable and yours will be too. Try not to panic and think the worst even though sometimes it's hard to do. My doctor gave me ativan to take at night so I can get a good night's sleep. It has helped a lot. It sounds like they caught yours early so that is very good. Glad you are getting in to see the surgeon tomorrow too. Keep us posted.

Just back from the doctor. She said at this time it’s DCIS stage 0 and recommends lumpectomy and radiation after that. Says they won’t truly know if it is invasive until after the surgery/ biopsy. She also says its Estrogen neg and progesterone neg. she never mentioned the Her2 or Triple neg. Anyone know why? I don’t know enough about any of this and I totally forgot to ask. Thank you all for your help and support. You are all in my prayers always

    Hi Tinkerbell,

Sorry you are going through this. Until they do the lumpectomy and send for final pathology they cannot tell everything and they will try to ensure there are "clean margins" around what is excised as well so no cancer remains in there if possible. My breast surgeon gave me a whole printout of my entire pathology of everything and it should show on there if you the ER/PR status and also HER2 status as well. If you did not get a whole printout try calling their office and see if they will email/fax to you so you can read up on it in here and learn more. Sometimes they will need to go back and take more (in my case) if there were not depending on if you have dense tissues or not. That can definitely make a difference as well. Mine originally was though to be DCIS to start with and then was found to be invasive and after lumpectomy and re-excision surgery it was decided it just had to go to make sure it was gone. Getting rid of that cancer is the main goal. Keep you eye on that and use everyone here as a good resource for you.

Hi Tinkerbell - you are in my neck of the woods. I'm having my biopsy on 8/20 and M.D. Anderson @ Cooper would be my first choice if biopsy comes back positive, with second opinion at Jefferson in Philly. I will be following. Prayers to you.

For some reason most dr's don't test for Her2 with DCIS so it's sounds like you have the complete pathology. No worries about her2 or triple negative.

I will tell you what my dr told me (and you can see my diagnosis was more involved than yours). She said: " you will be fine, this is cancer with a little c, a bump in the road, a minor inconvience. You will be fine." And you know what, she was right! I am fine.

Right now this seems so scary, all consuming and so much to learn but in a couple months this will be all behind you and you'll be fine too

Luckynumber, my MO said something similar. "This next year is gonna suck, but you're going to be okay." And she was right. It did suck. But 3 years later I'm doing great!

Hey there, I haven't posted in a while but..I was diagnosed almost a year ago. You had DCIS Stage 0? That is early early. I was Stage 1.

I had a unilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. I'm in Philly and had my surgery at Einstein, by Dr. Jennifer Simmons. She's amazing. With DCIS I'd imagine all you need is a lumpectomy.

Anyway, feel free to PM me with any questions. I know what an emotional roller coaster ride this whole thing is.
