Just diagnosed all so confusing
My journey started back in June when I found what turned out to be a cyst under my right breast (at 6:00) as it was topical and could easily be seen, my OBGYN assured me that it was a simple cyst and nothing to worry about. I went in for my annual mammogram, to be honest it was my first one in several years, my mammogram showed "suspicious" signs and I was called in for a diagnostic Mammogram, which confirmed microcalcifications. I had my biopsy on Wednesday and the Doctor called me yesterday with the results. she said that while it is not good news it is not the words news, she said I have signs of DCIS and a pre-cancerous condition. I have an appointment Monday morning at 10 with the surgeon. So this journey is just starting for me, I am trying to stay away from google, but we both know how impossible that is. I wish I had a copy of the report in front of me, but it has not been uploaded to my patient portal yet.. so it is a hurry up and wait game.

Rosemarie, welcome. This is a confusing and scary journey, especially at first, but many of us have walked in your shoes and now see life returning to normal. Let us know what you find out on Monday, and do ask for a copy of the mammogram and biopsy reports. We're here to help.

Looking back on it now, I think that Diagnosis is a process in itself. It starts with "suspicious", then biopsy, then surgeon visit, then maybe oncologist visit, maybe rad oncologist, maybe plastic surgeon, maybe dermatologist and what have I forgotten. Even then, there's surgery and the wait for pathology. Finally, the surgeon (or someone) tells you the final pathology, size, clear margins and node status. At that point you could say you've been diagnosed.
And then...the treatment process starts. I certainly felt better and more in control at that point.

rosemarie,It does get better. I'm nine days post diagnosis and day one I was a wreck. I went through the exact same process you did. My GYN found a lump and said it was nothing to worry about. My Mammo actually came back normal from that day. That was a few months ago. L I had it removed recently and path report showed IDC. BAM! It literally feels like your whole world got dumped upside down. I do agree with the comments above very much that it's such a process. Other types of illnesses, it seems like you get a single diagnosis. The diagnosis process takes a couple weeks and they could be the worst weeks ever. This forum has been such a great place to help get through those few weeks. It has certainly helped me over the last nine days. Hang in there, each day will feel just a little bit better. Take one day at a time. Just breathe and keep walking forward. Hugs to you.
