i know what you mean kimmie i went in due to sore breast so they sent me for a mammogram and then i got my letter in the mail that i needed to go back in for more pictures right before my 35th birthday and that was when it first started. they wanted me to do a follow-up in a year and the next one they did same thing had to go back for more pictures then that next year things were alot different thats when i started having to do twice a yr along with US and then the rest picks up on here. I wish you luck! and i know its easier said then done but try to relax.. big hugggs to ya

No Sunshine, if it was cancer doesnt mean you find out sooner. Pathology labs and pathology doctors take time and sometimes get back logged.
48 hours is very reasonable.
-
"i sure hope that its not cancer but if it was wouldnt someone have already told me by now???"
I think you should ask this exact question. However, what I think they're doing is trying to rule out the possibility of cancer.
-
I'm sorry marie I should have been more specific, its not the 48 hours I was referring to its the multiple trips to have mammos and US done in the last 1 1/2 and frid will be my 4th trip to the surgeon. I've already had 2 US in the last 28 days and fri when he does it will be 3 and I still don't have a clue as to what the true isssue is. I know I have a 1 cm lump at 12 o'clock on my right breast and that's what they keep checking.
-
Sunshine, If you had it looked at multiple times and they still can't tell you anything, by all means ask for it to be biopsied. They certainly aren't giving you answers now, and it is upsetting you. Take it out, get an answer. All the worry that you're going through is just senseless!
((Hugs))

Thank you that's what I'm going to do friday when I go back to the surgeon because either it is or it isnt something. Huggss back to you thank you
-
Oh ok Sunshine, the confusion was on my part...
Ultimately they cant tell if it's cancer or not without a biopsy (although there are things that can show up on a mammo, US, or MRI that can make them extremely suspicious that it is)
Going back and re-reading all of your posts, it sounds like that they really dont know. I would definitely be telling the Dr that you want a biopsy.
-
Although I'm not going to disagree about the idea of requesting a biopsy, it seems to me you have a lot of unanswered questions. Whether or not you ask for a biopsy, I suggest you sit down and write your doctor a letter. Figure out what you want him to know and what you want him (or is it a "her?") to tell you.
You needn't actually send the letter -- the purpose is for you to determine what you really want to communicate and what you want communicated to you.
A biopsy will tell the doctor certain things, but what's the point of merely educating the doctor? YOU are the one who needs information here. Write down what you want to know and be sure you get your questions answered. Please do this WHETHER OR NOT you ask for a biopsy. I'm fairly sure it will help you.

Thank you cycle-path i will do that... i'm gonna call today and see if i can get a copy of the results from mondays mammao and US so that i can have them when i go to the surg tomorrow.
have a great day everyone

UPDATE: this is the radiolgy report from the mammo and US done Monday.
MAMMO REPORT:
Findings: Heterogeneously dense right breast tissue is present. No dominant mass architectural distortion or worrisome microcalcifications.
density- 50-75% Heterogeneously denseImpression: No focal mammographic findings, US showed a small hypoechoic nodule right breast retroareolar region either a fibroadenoma or a lymph node, stable compared to previous exams. 6 mth follow up reccomended.
ULTRASOUND REPORT:
TECHNIQUE: US of the right breast was performed with particular attention to the retroareolar region including gray scale and color flow images saved to PACS
FINDINGS: In the retroareolar region, a hypoechoic solid nodule is present with slightly lobular borders and an echogenic band centrally. currently measures 11 x 7 mm in size and has a stable sonographic appearance compared to 12-28-2011,7-13-2011. may represent a small fibroadenoma or intramammary lymph node. probably benign. 6 mth follow up reccomend.
and this is the first i seen about dense breast... anyone have any other questions you think i should ask my surgeon tomorrow?
Is this something that should come out? I read where dense breast can be hard to show some stuff on a mammo is there another test i should ask for?Thank you
-
Sunshine,
Here is a website that may help you formulate questions that you may want to ask tomorrow.
I know here in CT there is a state law that if a woman falls into a certain catagory of density, that their insurance company has to pay for a screening MRI.

i just returned from the surgeons office and come to find out it wasnt a solid nodule it was fluid filled he did a biopsy on 2 areas he was baffled at the shape and said it was odd but he told me not to be alarmed that he would get the results back and we could go over them. he set me an appt for friday feb 3. when i saw the nurse turn around with the tube i saw that it was dark pink, what color is the fluid normally that comes from a cyst? so now i just sit back and wait :-(
-
Good news that it was just a fluid filled cyst!
The color of the fluid aspirated isn't generally indicative of anything special. There's almost always going to be SOME blood in it because they can't always be sure that the only thing that got aspirated was the cyst. The needle could have gone outside the cyst during part of the procedure and "sucked up" some blood.

Hello,
I would like someone to look at my ultrasound photos and tell me if I should ask for biopsy when I see the breast surgeon in a few weeks. I had an ultrasound of the right breast and there is a 1.6 cm x 0.8 cm solid nodule at the 2 o clock position. Was recommended to have a follow up ultrasound in 6 months but my dr wants me to let a surgeon look at it. Birads is category 3, so low probability but it did look a little concerning to me. What would you do? Thank you.

Is anyone around and willing to share opinions on this?
-
Hi there Butterfly. None of us are doctors here, so I am doubtful anyone is going to be able to read images for you. I see you were in touch with DJMammo in the Spring; why don't you get the text of the accompanying report and get his view?
All best wishes.
-
Hi Georgia,
Yes I was in touch with him a while back about previous studies. Those issues have resolved and this is a new finding. My written report is very minimal concerning information. It only measures the "node" as 1.6cm x 0.8cm and states it is solid and is felt represent normal breast parenchyma, while also stating this was not found on any previous studies. Recommended 6 month follow up. When the report went to my referring physician they felt the lump again and said it is clearly not normal breast tissue as it is rock hard and does not move. They set me up with a surgeon and I am just wondering if this should be biopsied. I only shared the images in hopes someone may have seen anything similar. I realize I cannot be diagnosed here, only looking for advice. I apologise if I asked my original question the wrong way.
-
Got it, Butterfly and no need to apologize; it's just that most of us don't read images. I would assume from what you are saying that the surgeon is going to discuss pros and cons of removing it so he can get a full pathology workup, which is essentially an (excisional) biopsy. You might ask if a core needle biopsy, which is much less invasive, is an option. But yes, if I were in your shoes I probably would prefer a biopsy now to waiting six months, unless your doctors end up sure it is benign.
