Architectual distortion

I have not been diagnosed with breast cancer, my sister was and underwent radiation and is doing fine. I had a mammogram on July 18th which showed questionable distortion. I do not have a diagnostic mammogram scheduled until August 30th. I am just worried that it could be something and they are making me wait too long for this follow up mammogram. Should I be concerned or is this something that normally shows up on a mammogram. I have had mammograms every year for 20 years and have very dense breast but this has never showed up before.

Hi Exforge. An architectural distortion finding essentially means some of your breast tissue is being mildly distorted by something, which could be cancer but could also be something benign. Waiting two more weeks isn't particularly troubling to me, but it's really your own feelings that matter. You might try moving up the appointment, making sure they understand you have a family history.

Wishing you all the best of course, and let us know if we can help.

Thank you Georgia1, I just needed to reach out and see if anyone else has had to wait 6 weeks for a diagnostic mammogram. I guess they are not too worried about it or they would have had me come in sooner. Thank you for your response.

Exforge1, I had to wait from early November until February for my diagnostic mammogram at a very busy county hospital breast center. I knew that if they had seen anything terribly alarming I would have been "triaged up" the ladder.

waiting is horrible but you're Doing your part. If it will ease your mind ask to be contacted if they have a cancellation. Hug

Definitely ask them to call if/when they have a cancellation. Waiting is brutal. I have a family history too and always get a diagnostic mammogram. In the meantime try and keep as busy as you can.

    Keep us posted.

I had the same report 2/17. Mine turned out to be Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia-a benign condition. I had the area excised and am now on increased monitoring. MRI/3D mammo every six months.

My entire journey from Mammo to biopsy, diagnosis was less than 2 weeks. My lumpectomy followed 2weeks later. I'm sorry you are having to wait so long as that is the hardest part. Are you in the US?

Definitely continue to call for cancellations and as mentioned try not to worry, although it's hard, we know.
