Hello,

I have not been on this site in a long time. I am 10 years out from my BC surgery. I have been struggling for 2 years with ALL of the symptoms of Menopause if you get what I mean. I'm 44, so I have a long road ahead of me.

I have been wondering about starting over the counter progesterone creams or any other progesterone supplements to help with the menopause symptoms. Has anyone else on this site started taking Progesterone after their Breast Cancer? what are your thoughts about starting the creams and have they helped or hindered things in any way?

I got 9 years out from my breast cancer, and decided I was tired of the lack of umph in my life. with my docs approvals, I went for hormone replacement therapy, Had the best year since my teens, tons of energy, love of life, wonderful love life. etc etc. Got my 10 year mark "cured" diagnosis, and 3 months later, found cancer had returned. my HRT was testosterone and progesterone heavy, little to no estrogen (just to be safe since I was estrogen sensitive) a year of it, brought all the cancer back.

I guess my point is tread carefully. Good Luck

    1. I saw a video in which the presenter said that the relapse period for hormone receptor negative, HER2 positive cancer is within 6 to 7 years. So, you should be in the clear as far as the disease you had ten years ago is concerned. But check with your doc on this.

    2. Have you had a mastectomy? Are you worried about developing a new primary tumor? If so, one doctor told me that “all breast cancer has its etiology in hormones”. Another said that there is “emerging evidence” that progesterone causes hormone receptor negative breast cancer.

I would steer clear of hormones and try and find a different way to cope. There is just too much risk. I am perimenopausal and feel your pain (literally). I now have all kinds of joint andconnective tissue issues and seem to injure myself every other week.

All I can say is WOW to both of your stories!! I am so glad I started a thread on here before I went ahead with trying any hormones. I can tell you that I have had joint and connective tissue issues also. 2015 was a very bad year for tearing ligaments in odd places, like my big toe... by doing yoga of all things and in my elbow from hanging Halloween decorations!

I had a double Mastectomy because my mom is also s survivor, the doc didn't want to take any chances. My worry is developing cancer in another area as a result of any HRT. I was just wondering if anyone here has had success, but so far I am seeing that it is not worth the risk to try any hormone replacement. It makes me sad to think I will have to live this way for the rest of my life, but I definitely do not want to have to go through cancer treatment ever again.

    Thanks again for the responses.
