Need advice on triple negative breast cancer
Hi I am writing here I am new I’m unsure how to use this site so please direct me to the right place !
So my mam now is going through breast cancer for the second time after 2 years except this time it’s morw aggressive and extreme than before.
So we are in Ireland and they don’t give us much information , I have been in the room with her & on diagnosis I where there also !
A small history
9 years ago she got breast cancer but it was still encapsulated so they did a biopsy and then a lumpectomy and she was fine a couple of months later .
This time it’s on the other side and a whole different type of cancer , only found through mammogram and biopsy !
Triple negative breast cancer I don’t know if there is another name or not for this !
She is going through chemo then surgery then radio then more chemo she is on a trial drug !
I am her main researcher I like to look into things the hospital gave me some sites !
Every where I read it says 5 year survival rate , is this with surgery !
To add my mam is 46 her mother died of breast cancer at the same age !
My mum has a three year old little girl who has trisomy 21!
I’m just looking for the right place for advice !

Mymamsmyhero - I’m so sorry you’re here, but so great that you’re such an advocate for your mom.
First, don’t go searching information on triple negative (TN) because a lot of it is outdated and doom and gloom and will do nothing but scare you.
It sounds like the game plan for her is spot on - TN is treated aggressively, which is good. By getting chemo first, they can see how the tumor responds and tweak it if necessary.
Survival rates depend on so many factors. There’s a UK website called predict where you can plug in her stats and get an idea of survival stats. It remember, she’s a star of one.
Also genetic testing should be done, especially with her history. This information can help makes treatment decisions.
Please come back for support.
Hugs.

Mymamsmyhero, we are really sorry to hear what you and your mom are going through. She is very lucky to have you as her advocate. And really terrific advice from VL22.
You may want to check out our section on triple negative here: https://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/diagnosis/tr...
And indeed, genetic testing could help guide her treatment decisions.
We're here for you!
