for the past month my right breast has felt "different". Just can feel something in my breast that moves a little between my fingers but also feels like thickened tissue or something just under my skin. I've been nauseated (not sure if it's related) and I've had sharp shooting pains thru my breast.. has anyone had this? Everywhere I've read on the internet says pain isn't related to breast cancer but I'm still very very worried and all I can think about is my 3 kids. I will be going in to get checked as soon as I'm able to get health insurance

    Hi Ashley,

welcome to breastcancer.org Don't jump to cancer in your mind right away. Remember the old saying: If you hear hoof beats, think "horses" not "zebras" (since horses are more common). The most obvious reason for changes in breasts is having your period every month causes changes. Sometimes there are cysts that fill with fluid as you approach your period, and they can hurt and feel funny. Sometimes there are just bits of breast tissue that make bumps that are NOT cancer.

You don't need insurance to get a mammogram -- there are plenty of places that give mammograms at no cost, just google it in your area. Also, even if you have no money you can get Medicaid in the US, and that will cover the cost of a mammogram. But really, there are SO many things that could be going on with your breast that are NOT cancer, just do something to get your mind off of it and then arrange to get a mammogram for free. Hope that helps.
