Back pain. Mets?

Options

Hi I have had lower back pain x 2 yrs. increased a year ago. On Nov 2017 I was diagnosed with ILC 1 cm ER/PR + and Her2 - breast cancer stage 2A with 2/5 lymph nodes positive. Before breast cancer diagnosis I had a back scan and told I have anterior lythsis at L4/5. Scan after diagnosis was clear of any Mets. StartedFemara in April 2018. My back pain has increased. Had another MRI with contrast that showed small area they think is arthritis at L 4/5 but not positive. Follow up in 3 mo. Today I told onc that back pain had increased and she ordered a PET scan. My anxiety is through the roof. Anyhelp or advice would be appreciated!!

A lot of things can cause severe back pain. It sucks our minds have to automatically go to cancer. Just remember lots of people have been through what you are going through and did not have mets. I hope all is clear for you!

I am glad that your MO is being thorough and ordering a PET scan. It is soooo hard not to dwell on cancer, but this is arthritis until proven otherwise. And arthritis can cause severe pain. Please keep us posted. Hoping they get you in for the PET scan soon.

Sorry that you are going through this. Waiting on test results is the worst. One thing I can tell you is that Femara has done a number on my back. It seems like it makes pain worse in areas where there was already a weakness. I had an old break in my foot, and it hurts constantly now. I have some mild arthritis in my back, and now it is sore much of the time. I had a bone scan because it was worrying me, but it was negative. I hope your results are also positive. Keep us posted.

I had some pretty bad lower back pain going on. I knew L5-S1 was shot, this was different. PCP sent me for MRI. Turned out to be arthritis, stenosis, degeneration of discs, and the shot disc.

Our brains do tend to go dark places, it’s good you are getting it checked out. Hope it is B9, and remember to breathe 😍.

A friend is going through the same thing. Her back pain travelled down one of her legs and she was beside herself. She had a MRI and discovered it was a herniated disc. She goes to therapy and does exercises that she says really helps.

It is a sad commentary that we associate aches and pains with the C word but that unfortunately comes with the territory I guess when you have BC.

    Hope your scan is okay.

Been there, been scanned for that.

My lower back is pretty arthritic. But I had both knees replaced two years ago, and wa-laa...! No more back pain.

Thank you everyone, for your encouraging words. It’s so comforting knowing there are other people traveling this road with me. Im trying to stay positive until I know there is something to worry about. Hopefully, they will schedule the scan soon. Thanks agai
