Taking AlgaeCal and Anastrozole .
After chemotherapy last year, my bone density scan shows more bone loss. I would like to try this product with simethicone instead of infusions or injections as my oncol advised. Does anyone take the hormone therapy with calcium

I have osteoporosis. I took Arimidex for one year before my MO wised up and switched me to Tamoxifen. Arimidex attacks the bones. You would think she would have known that. Anyway now I take calcium supplements, Vitamin D and Boniva(monthly). I’ve had painful bouts of osteoporosis even with taking those meds. My internist wanted me to do the infusions but I didn’t want to. Too expensive even with insurance. I guess if my osteoporosis gets worse I’ll try them to see if they work better.

I have an appt. next week with the MO and was reading about all these bone strengthening drugs and this other product. It was interesting to me to learn that density doesn't equal quality. Even if you get a better density score from one of these medications, your bone quality may not improve as these medications are basically tricking your cells that eliminate and grow bones. I also read that once you come off one of these drugs the rate of bone loss is rapid and no one knows how long you should take it (ie: Prolia 10 years) and how to come off of it safely.
So, arming myself with more info for next week as I decided I am not ready to introduce another thing into my body. I had a DEXA last year (scores not perfect) and I hope Doc will let me wait until I get another one in a year to see if worse (then I will probably take the shot), or if same or better I will not have to. This gives me incentive and I like being active in my own treatment. Wish me luck!

When I go back to MO in Feb next year they will see if my insurance will cover the Prolia shot. It does seem to be covered as a condition on the insurance web site is to be on the AI. I'm off to research calcium now. My last blood work it was in normal range. Prolia could cause low calcium, and MO said they will keep check on a few other levels as well. I can't recall what they are now. It's TMI for me, I go on overload reading about all this stuff!!!
Pretty soon I'll have filled up and 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper of medications, medications to counteract medications, and supplements to counteract side effects and/or make up for deficiencies caused by taking said medications. However, the goal is to get the best possible outcome of keeping the BC away for many, many, many years so I'll take the damn shot. Hopefully only for 2 yrs.

I've taken Citracal for years, it's a calcium supplement with vitamin D, and I workout 3-5x a week with many weight bearing exercises. Bone density was normal May 2017. In May 2019 they'll check again, which will be after I've been on Anestrozole over a year. Good luck to you!

After chemo, my bone density showed as osteoporosis. ! :-( My oncologist recommended alendronate. I took it for a couple of months...but kept reading about the negatives--- My dentist specialist tells me that because I had chemo and a bisphosphonate I will ALWAYS be at risk for osteocronosis (sp?) of the jaw.
Anyway. I quit the bisphosphonates. Taking calcium, D3, K2. Doing weight-bearing exercises 3x a day. 3-4 hours apart.
After a year, the new bone density test showed a 5 percent ("significant") improvement...moved me into the osteopenia category. Seemingly good news. But my Endocrinologist says, she has her doubts... Says that since the forearm wasn't tested, it might not actually be true bone density improvement but might be osteoarthritis that LOOKS like density on the scan. So...I'll test again in Oct WITH the forearm test. I'm staying with the anastrozole because it's believed to be more effective than tamoxifen against lobular. And I had a large tumor.
