Inconclusive MRI

Hi Everyone,


I found a lump in May and went to the doctor. He felt 2 lumps and sent me for an ultrasound ( I'm 27).

The ultrasound showed nothing at all, the lumps are palpable and one is distorting the breast.

I was set to watch and wait for 3 months but then the lump grew so I was sent for a mammogram, which lead to another ultrasound and another mammogram all in one day.

The radiologist said they could not see the lumps at all but they say microcalcifications especially where I told them the lumps were. He said he was very concerned. Fast forward 2 months I finally get my MRI( i missed 2 periods!)., MRI before biopsy because they wanted to biopsy the lumps as well as the calcification's but the lumps were not visible so they needed some sort of image.

I got my results from my MRI and it was inconclusive! So frustrating! I am set for a biopsy in the next week. They could see the lumps hardly in the MRI but could not see them enough to decide what they could be.

The doctor who gave me MRI results was not my regular doctor and seemed very distant and unconcerned by the whole thing, I asked her questions and she didn't have any answers from me.

The doctor said they have no clue either way at this point, I can't find anything on inconclusive breast MRIs. I'm slowly loosing my mind, everything has been inconclusive.

Has anyone else had an inconclusive MRI?

    I’m sorry you’re getting the runaround. It can be very frustrating. Inconclusive mri can mean many things. There should be a Bi-Rads score on all the imaging. You would find this along with the entirety of the radiolgist’s findings/observations on the radiology reports. Can you get them off your patient portal? If not, you can request them from the imaging centers. They are your records and you have the right to a copy. It may or may not shed some light. But it won’t change need for biopsy to be sure.

      That is really messy! I think the whole process that you go thru is a joke. It think it's a insurance scam.
      I'm still wanting to see a breast specialist. Same as you, Cheyhow, I missed my period in between this time. Is there a meaning for that? 2 months as well.

    My MRI was also inconclusive, but showed microcalcifications. I had a subsequent diagnostic mammogram that ended up with BIRADS 4. Biopsy indicated DCIS.
