Side effects from xeloda
Has anybody had any success effectively treating effects from hand and foot syndrome while taking xeloda? I’ve tried udder cream, aquaphor, O’Keefe’s working hands, plus several typical body creams (aveeno, neutrogena Norwegian formula, Vaseline intensive care), and none of them really work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Scho, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,
We're so sorry to hear you're dealing with this terrible side effect of treatment. We're sure others will be by shortly to weigh in with their thoughts, experience, and advice. But in the meantime, you may be interested to check out the main Breastcancer.org site's side effect page on Hand-Foot Syndrome for some tips to help manage this effect.
We hope this helps and we look forward to hearing more from you soon!

Welcome scho. I have been on Xeloda for a year now. Here is my summary about hfs:
Avoid heat (including hot water and sun), pressure (including from tools), friction, and harsh chemicals on your hands and feet. Based on my reading, it may help to make sure your diet that has enough vitamins B6 and E, and to eat anti-inflammatory foods such as ginger and oregano. Unscented lotions that contain lanolin and/or urea are probably best. I like to rinse my feet with cold water if they get sweaty, since the drug coming out of the sweat glands of the hands and feet may be a reason for hfs. Ultimately, a longer break to aid healing, followed by a dose-reduction, may be needed. Do tell your oncologist about your symptoms. Good luck.

If you are stage iv, you might like to join us us on the Xeloda thread called "All About Xeloda". Don't try to read from the beginning; just go to the last few pages. (I think those women in the past were on terribly high doses.)

If you are early stage (Xeloda for stage III) the thread is "Xeloda Group -- Jan/Feb 2018 (Early Stage)"

Thanks for the advice, ShetlandPony. I’ll check out the site for late stage. I’ve been on the xeloda for 9 months now and already had one break and one dose reduction, but mostly I’ve been ok till now. This cycle is kicking my butt. I hadn’t heard about the anti-inflammatory or vitamin B6 and E. I’ll have to,try that.
