Don't worry, Egads, I only strayed for a day. My paleo-preferring body forced me right back on the wagon the next morning! (And welcome back; we missed you!)

Map, I'm right there in the sauna with you - I have so many hot flashes that DH refers to me as his "hot woman!" Hope you figure out what's causing those chest pains - and soon.

TwoH, all I can say is yum, pizza. That is definitely worth a trip to Vegas!

Vamp, I'm sure you'll get back on the losing track soon. You're dealing with a lot of stuff right now so don't be hard on yourself.

Looks like I'll be on a break from paleo for a couple weeks. I'm having prolapse surgery tomorrow (to repair some of the damage done by a hysterectomy, two pregnancies resulting in chubby babies with big heads & my failure to do kegels - sorry if that's TMI!). I'm doing the prep today (it's like colonoscopy prep on steroids) & will then be on a liquid diet for two weeks. As if that's not enough suffering, I'm forbidden all exercise except walking for six weeks. Yuch!

The good news is that I am feeling great on paleo. It's been 5 weeks & I've lost 12 pounds without any particular effort. It has given me the incentive to make some other changes too - I had cortisone shots in my arthritic knees, switched AIs & decided to go ahead with the prolapse surgery that I've been putting off for years. Guess you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

In the meantime I'm going to read the books I've been hoarding, binge-watch everything on my DVR & keep up with what's happening on BCO. Pls post lots of pics (with recipes!) of your healthy meals. If I can't eat it, at least I can look at it!

Map - I had horrible breathing problems they thought was a clot. There was chest pain, difficulty getting a full breath, I forget the other symptoms anyway it turned out to be an allergy to aspartame.

Egads - good to have you back, bummer about the plumbing issue, hope it's an easy fix.

JKL - good luck with the surgery! Here is some food porn for you:

    Vamp

How did they figure that t was an allergy? I can breath it’s not that severe. It’s just on and off and started when I started Chemo. But all my treatment is over, last of the herceptin was end of December’s.

I call Dr. And I’m going for more tests. Cat scan, blood work and probably another echocardiogram. I had one post treatment in Jan and all was fine. So we’ll se

Map - I figured it out myself, when starting Paleo, had to give up diet pepsi. I was good for awhile and then had a piece of gum, the breathing issue was back within10 minutes of chewing. Aspartame in the gum, haven't had a problem since then.

An update - surgery yesterday went well. (I have an awesome surgeon who is also paleo!) I was released around 5:00 pm. Last night was uncomfortable because my surgeon sent me home packed & with a catheter. (double yuch!) DH drove me to her office this morning & she removed both so I'm feeling much better today. She also looked over her work & said I was healing beautifully. (She also said that I have the vagina of a 25 year old! Who knew?) I shared that information with my DH & he commented that he's a lucky man! LOL

I'm missing my paleo food & my gym but know I need to heal before returning to my new lifestyle. So while I'm at home recuperating on my liquid diet I'll be cheering for all you!

Vamp, I loved your food pornography - can you tell me what you were eating - it looks tasty!

Map, glad your tests went well!

Egads, hope everything is now working at your house. Did you manage to stay strictly paleo while on vacation?

A belated welcome, Ksusan. The more the merrier!

Cowgal, how goes it with you? (We started paleo on the same day, if I remember correctly.)

Keep the food porn coming, y'all!

Thanks, Vamp. I've never had golden beets but now I want to try them! And what's not to love about Caesar salad & salmon? (I'm fantasizing about real food while I dig into boring bowls of soup.)

And thanks, all, for the good wishes. I plan to get back to my paleo life as soon as possible but in the meantime I'll just live vicariously through all of you!

Heal up quickly, JKL. Map, I am glad the scan was good.

Chef has prepared a Green Taco Salad. Ground organic beef seasoned with cumin, chile powder, and onion on a bed of red leaf lettuce and avocado topped with a tomatillo salsa. Ot in other words, this was all I could concoct from the measly inngredients left in my frig. But it was delicious.

Worcestershire Sauce - Not Paleo or Keto or LCHF friendly is it? Oops used 2 tsp in the homemade burgers last night..... so what is a good alternative?

Also anyone know about Quinoa and where it stands with our diet?

Made homemade bbq sauce was a hit was the family!

    Howdy Cave Chicks!!!

I'm not even going to try to catch up with the posts I missed while on vakay right now.....I'm up to my ears in work & home catch up. I will however get to the posts y'all made while I was HAVING AN AWESOME TIME!!!!

Ksusan - I think I welcomed you to the crew, but if I didn't (my bad memory, thanks tamoxifen) WELCOME!!!! LOL@ penguin....we're paleo girlfriend, better watch out for the penguin LOL!

JKL - Woot! So glad to read the surgery went well AND that you've had a vaginal renaissance....I want one of those!!!! LOL, I spat coffee at my screen when I read that :)))))) Hang in, you'll be back in your tiger skin paleo dress before you know it! 5 weeks and 12 lbs down.....you're the epitome of Paleo....you rock!!

Vamp - I'm back in town sometime next month and I'll be letting you know.....if you're anywhere near Toronto or me near you I'll be looking for that hug you posted a while back!! We could get into so much carby trouble together LOL!! So it was the aspartame?? No troubles since? Quinoa, is not paleo, very carby, BUT absolutely full of great stuff, has an awesome nutritional profile. To re-carb if you're sluggish or as a sensible 'cheat'/treat quinoa or lentils are the way to go....just don't eat a pail full :))

MAP - Whew @ the CT.....and on to the stress test, did you ask about the tamoxifen and a break to see if it was the root of all the evil? Hang in and keep us posted! Hugs!

Cowgirl - Looks like you have all your phone/BCO issues solved YAY.....we missed you!

So it looks like we've got Foodie Friday more than covered.....so cool.....keep those pics and kitchen posts coming ladies. Someone asked if I remained Paleo on my vacation, well I've been just shy of 4 years paleo and not looking back yet, even on vakay. My biggest 'cheat' was not going to the gym for 10 days. I did manage to walk 164.6 km (102 miles) during my trip back home, so I like to think that makes up for it. We walked up and down town everyday....I love my city!!!!

My plumbing......sewage pipe to the street needs replaced....major work, major dollars :( Any of y'all interested in an awesome workout that includes digging up a front lawn??? :))))))))))))))))))

    Hugs to all!

Oh man Egads - should we start a Gofundme page for your pipe? :) Digging is out for me, I am still struggling to workout, tried a couple times this week with not a lot of luck. Then yesterday the boys and I cleaned two houses - my back is screaming at me - literally! I hate Tamoxifen, I miss working out. I have had a few cheats, but honestly didn't enjoy them. I have noticed that when I make up the boys flavoured water it now smells super sweet to me, not sure I would want to drink it. As for the breathing - yup no problems since staying away from Aspartame. If only I had known before all those needles for my "blood clot" and all the stress of thinking I had bone mets, although maybe I do and it was a good think for the tests to show there are spots on my spine. Well time will tell.

Trying Chicken Crust Pizza again tonight.....last time I doubled the chicken and forgot to double the rest of the recipe, it wasn't bad last time so maybe this time made correctly it will be even better.

Ksusan, thanks for the food pics. (And for the cute after dinner treat!) I am definitely going to try some of those (especially that Cubano)!

Ouch, Egads, that is an expensive repair! A lot of people around here buy insurance through their utility companies to cover this kind of issue. It's relatively inexpensive & they just add the cost to your regular bill every month. Guess it's too late for that. Barbeque chicken pizza? You're killing me here!

Vamp, I'm sending healing thoughts your way. Sounds like the work you do provides plenty in the way of workouts. Just add more in gradually as you feel up to it. You'll get there! Remember that life's a marathon, not a sprint.

As an aside, Vamp, I've been thinking about the situation with your stepdad's brother. (I don't know Canadian law, but here in the states most personal property owned by a married person is considered jointly owned by the couple (unless specifically held otherwise). Upon the death of either party, full ownership transfers automatically to the surviving spouse. (It can get more complicated if there is no will & the decedent has children from another relationship, but this doesn't seem to apply here.) The bottom line is that if your mother is upset with your stepdad's relatives, she may need to take the lead in recovering those items taken.

Map, I second Egads' suggestion about going off Tamoxifen to see whether it is the cause of your issues. I took a month's vacation from anastrozole & felt so much better that my MO put me on exemestane in place of it. (My SEs disappeared within the first 10 days or so.)

Recovery is going well enough that I think I'll do some (slow) miles on the treadmill today. The hardest part of healing is the liquid diet! Only 13 days left!!!

    Enjoy your weekend, cave chicks!

Egads I feel your pain on the plumbing. We got a first estimate on our sump pump line and well, its the price of a nice vacation. i hate spending all that money on something you cant see. I would rather remodel my bathroom. Ugh.

Ksusan I thnk you got this Paleo thing down!

I tell you, it is really hard to eat out and judge the carb or calorie content. One day this week DH woke up late for work and wasnt able to grab breakfast or lunch. He asked me if I could bring him something, and since I was working too, we had an option that worked logistically and time wise and we both ordered chicken fingers and cheese curds. After I ate, I looked up their nutrition info and that had 91 carbs. Ugh! Four chicken fingers had 42 grams carb, whereas another place I go 4 have 27 grams.

Hang in their Inna. Chemo is darn hard

I don't know if I posted about zucchini pie. I am hoping it's Paleo approved because it's delicious! My once son ate 1/2 the pie! Its made with 2 cups zucchini (obviously), 4 eggs, 1 cup cheese (need to find an alternative that taste just as good, medium onions and Keto Bisquick. That's it, you can add meat or change zucchini to broccoli as well. image
