hi,

I’m not sure what some of the wording in my ultrasound report means...hoping someone can chime in?

Nearly anechoic ovoid massmeasuring 7x3x8 mm within the posterior breast tissue, 8cm from nipple. There is backwall reflection and through transmission suggestive of a cyst.

Just wondering why, if it’s just a cyst, it wasn’t BIRADS 0-2 (original mammo said BIRADS-0)?

Thx

Birads 0 just means they need more images (diagnostic mammo) before making a call on what they are seeing on your screener.

Cysts are described as "anechoic" meaning "no echos at all inside them". This one is "nearly anechoic" so there are some echos in it. The terms backwall reflection and through transmission are also terms used for a benign cyst.

I assume this is a new finding? That in itself is probably enough to do a 6 mo follow up.

It is a new finding, and they did recommend a 6 month follow up.

Thanks for your clarification! I'll put my anxiety on ice for another six months lol
