First MAMO 3D - Call back
This morning I had my first mammogram. It was 3D and I had no idea what to expect. I turned 40 in March but due to just having a baby and breastfeeding I had to postpone my first mammogram until today. I got a call this afternoon that I needed to come in for a second screening next Wednesday due to the radiologist not having enough pictures to create a baseline. My mammogram was categorized as incomplete. I went onto MyChart tonight to check the appointment and put it on my calendar and I had a "new health problem" listed. It said dense breast tissue on mammogram.
Should I assume that is why the radiologist wants to get more pictures? They told me the appointment would be no longer than 10-15 mins.
I've always heard that dense breast tissue is a bad thing. Are there questions I should be asking etc?

dense breast tissue can make it harder to detect things but doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad and is quite common. :

Since they don't have any old films to compare to on your first mammogram, it is really common to get called back for more views because they don't know what your normal is yet

ok thank you so much for the replies. It was a little unnerving to be called so soon but the dense tissue flag on my record seems to make sense.

i wish i had $5 for every time i had a callback. I could hit up the mall for new shoes!

lol since this is my first I would like to think they are just diligent lol even though my chart says only dense breast tissue, it is still nerve wracking. Geez

thanks for the site, I suppose it’s good to be diligent but this is a little more intense than I thought. Lol it was (I guess) reassuring to see dense breast tissue on mammogram as the notes on my chart and nothing else.
What does GWSM mean on my order? Also I thought diagnostic mammograms were much longer than 10 mins? They told me my appointment would be 10 mins or leas

They may not need to do a full mammogram, only look at couple areas. Since this is your first mammo, there is no other image they can look at to compare. It will probably take 15min, plus time spent waiting for the radiologist to look at the imaging. They may say 10 min, but i doubt you'll really be in and out in 10 min. I find that the wheels of medicine move slowly most of the time. No wonder we all ger a little crazy with the waiting.

ha ha I just had my fourth child and I’m pretty sure I aged 30 years waiting on some of my appointments 😂
I just need to make sure that I don’t wear deodorant or lotion. Lol a sticky note on the moreo
