Surgery in July 2018
I have been reading the surgery threads for May and June. Thought it was time to post one for July. My particular interest is BMX which I will have mid to late this month. I am not planning on reconstruction at this stage.
Met with surgeon last week. She is not happy about my wanting a prophylactic on my healthy breast because she does not want to risk (thru chance of infection) a delay to treatment (radiation to axilla and clavical). Her priority is cure! I understand this but want both removed and the thought of more surgery post radiation is not appealing. Actually I don't want either breast removed but if I have to have surgery - which I do - I want both gone now.
I look foward to hearing from other who are heading to or have just had surgery.

Helen, thanks for starting this thread. I had prophylactic double mastectomy on 19th June because of family history and I can understand you wanting both breasts gone to reduce your risk of recurrence. I hope your surgery goes well.

Hello ladies! Thought I’d join in this thread. I’m scheduled for a lumpectomy with sentinel lymph node removal and biopsy on July 19. I’m hoping for clean margins and no node involvement!

Thereis another surgery in July thread that is active. Suggest anyone wanting to discuss. Head there...

Today is Saturday. I have my surgery Monday. Filled with nervous energy (cleaning house top to bottom) combined with wanting to go to bed for 3 days till it's over. Most afraid of the pain that seems to be worse with the lymph node / nuclear medicine procedure.....Not being a good mom---shouldn't we all be cuddled up somewhere filled with love and gratitude for one another? I feel I want to avoid the kids...am making them clean too....but the show must go on. Husband is worried sick..(cleaning like crazy) but not showing it....bring on the stress.....I think wine is in order... Posted in June surgery section by mistake.

Elizabeth9, I'm sorry you're all so stressed and worried. It's understandable to feel that way but it's good to be cleaning to release some of the nervous energy. I found it helpful before my surgery to focus on being glad it would be over soon and that I would go through healing stages afterwards. It would be good to have some cuddly moments with your kids as well as doing the cleaning. I hope it all goes well for you!

hi Elizabeth,
I had my BMX last Monday and I like you was very stressed. Once over I felt very relieved. The pain is much less than I anticipated. I hope your experience is similar. Good luck for Monday. I will see you on the othe July thread. Please let us know how you are managing post op.
Thank you very much Aussie cat for posting the link to the other July thread. Hope you are doing well.
Helen.
