So, my biopsy day is FINALLY approaching. I go this Thursday. Can someone tell me what to expect of an US Core Biopsy (solid mass w/vascularity is @ 9:00 8-9 cm from nipple)?? They changed my biopsy to that type. So.... I'm getting nervous....

Thanks,

Angel

So, were you scheduled for a stereotactic biopsy before? That one is done guided by MRI. The ultrasound core biopsy is guided by ultrasound. The core biopsy is done by inserting a small metal tube, kinda like a straw, over the area they want to biopsy (they numb you up good first.) The doctor will insert a slender instrument into the tube which will take tiny "bites" out of your tissue. You will hear clicking and feel pressure, but you should not feel pain. If you feel pain, speak up right away--they can shoot some more lidocaine down the tube for you. They'll take about 10-12 samples. After they remove the tube and the slender instrument, they will apply pressure to the area for 10-15 min to stop any bleeding. And then you'll be on your way!

Best of luck to you on Thursday.

Thank you mustlovepoodles! Yes, at the place I had my first set of images I was recommended to get the stereotactic biopsies. My PCP referred me for stereotactic biopsies at the hospital she works through (different location than where my first images were done). Long, story short after more images and 2 more Radiologists, it's been changed to US Core Biopsy. Thank you! I'm so nervous. Part of me is glad to finally get answers. Part is terrified.

Well, you prolly wouldn't be normal if you weren't just a little scared.

I survived the biopsy 🙂. I did have some side effects from the Prilocaine, my Dysautonomia acted up a bit while I was in the chair, and I subluxed my shoulder but that's all due to the joys of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome 😉. I'm having some mild pain in the breast now but it's bearable. Now just to wait for the results.....😬😰
