Deep,localized pain in 1 breast when pressed. No lump. Thoughts?

I'm making an appointment today with my OB but wanted to get some feedback from anyone who experienced something similar. A month ago a whack to my right boob from the vacuum cord either caused this pain I'm feeling or simply brought it to my attention (I'm thinking the latter). For weeks it was painful to even lay on my right side becuase it would squish my breast. A couple of time I got firm hugs from people and that too caused pain like someone pressing on a really nasty bruise. The past week or so the pain hasn subsided quite a bit. I no longer have pain when i sleep, hug or move in general. But I take both hands and flatten them on my breast and push it flat i can feel the tender spot up high and kinda deep. It isn't as bad but it's still there.The location is also weird in thats it's higher up. It's about the 1or 2 o'clock positions (upper inner part) and at least 2-3 inches away from the nipple.

I know self diagnosis is never going to work but it just seems like nothing fits the symptoms. I always figured IDC was closer to the nipple being in the ducts. Maybe ILC? I can't feel a thing as far as lumps go. There are no other symptoms, no puckering, bruising, thickening of tissue. I did have discharge but it was green and out of both nipples (and more than one orifice). This is NOT related to my cycle. That much I'm certain of.I know pain can be associated with cancer. I've read enough posts here to believe that but pain with no lump? I don't know what to think. Just looking for other people who can maybe share their experiences. Obviously hoping and praying for something benign..

    Mastitis ? do you have a fever ? Get a mammogram asap even if it is just an infection. There are cancers with no lump. (What I had). Lets hope it is just mastitis, but get a mammo asap anyway.

    amarantha, no I don’t think mastitis. I’ve had that before many years ago when I was breast feeding. This pain isn’t near the milk ducts at all. It’s quite high kind of in the fatty tissue up high.

    was able to get an appt. with my OB for next Tuesday. It will be for a regular breast exam only and then referral for mammogram and ultra sound I’m assuming since she’s done that for me once before.

    Curious what others might suggest. I have very very dense breasts so I’m going into this knowing that whatever I may have might not even show up on a mammogram. I’ve been searching for weeks and can’t find any sort of lump in the area of pain. I’m kind of thinking of asking for all 3 tests (mammogram, US, MRI) so I’m leave feeling like everything has been seen but is it pretty unlikely to get an MRI unless the other 2 fail? I don’t know if im more afraid of them not finding anything when i really feel like something isn’t right, or of actually finding cancer.

    Any suggestions for how to approach this appointment?

    Considering your pain started when you got whacked in the breast by a vacuum cleaner cord, I think you are getting ahead of yourself in insisting on an MRI when you haven't had the ultrasound and mammogram yet. MRIs are very expensive and insurance companies generally refuse to cover them if they don't believe they are necessary after other imaging.

    Go with an open mind. I would be very surprised if your insurance company would approve an MRI right outta the gate, so don't be surprised if your doc orders an ultrasound instead. US is very good at seeing through sense breasts.

    ok. I was not sure just how efficient US can be with dense breasts. I know it’s better than a mammo but still. Thanks for that info.

    I had benign microcalcofications on my last mammo. No one ever explained to me what that was at the time. It wasn’t until I came to this site and began reading about them and how it can be a bad sign of other things to come. That put together with my dense breasts is not helping me to feel any kind of reassurance. 😔

    Erin, pretty much all of us develop calcifications as we age. It is only when they form specific patterns that they may indicate something going on. The benign ones were not of concern

    thanks Melissa. I thought I read that microcalcifications (even when not in specific shapes) aren’t a great thing to have. Not cancerous but sometimes a precursor. Thanks for clarifying!!

    Anyone ever had localized pain without a lump before diagnosis?
