Suspicious mass
Hi everyone,
I am 42 and have dense breast tissue. My first 2 mmomograms were normal. Last yr I had one with 3d imaging and it was normal. This yr I had one 3 weeks ago with an ultrasound. The family Dr. sent me to a different hospital this time. I just got called 2 days ago by radiology that they wanted to take a look at the left breast. The Drs office then call with these words: there is a supicious mass 4cm behind the left nipple. I am going crazy with fear! I feel no lumps nothing seems like the classic breast cancer signs. I wonder if it's cancer and imagining that it's triple negative , inflammatory and I'm driving myself crazy! I had an aunt on my dad's side that had a couple lumps removed, some radiation and chemo and that was it for her. She didn't have any signs of cancer again. On my mom's side I have a 2nd cousin that survived breast cancer and an aunt of my mom's that passed away from bc when my mom was really young.I'm imagining the worst like is it stage 4. Please help!
Thanks

Update: Had a ultrasound on the left breast. Having biopsy to determine if it's bc or just a bunch of ligaments. The mass is about the size of a pea. It is hidden at times and can't be seen. I have about 54% breast density. Feeling a bit less anxious but still not out of the woods yet.

keeping You in my thoughts for good results. Glad to hear you are feeling a little less anxious. Keep us posted.
-
Thanks I hope everything goes well for you too.

Hi,
Update: I got an appointment on Thursday with the breast Dr. not biopsy yet. It's just a consultation. Question Can the Dr. determine if the mass even needs a biopsy?
Thanks
-
Can you post the imaging reports? I am curious about the "bunch of ligaments" comment.
-
Hi,
I don't have the images. The only thing I have is the summary that it's a suspicious mass 4cm behind the left nipple. The ultrasound technician said it might be ligaments. When they did the ultrasound last week on the left breast the mass was visible at times and at other times it wasn't.
Thanks for the reply.

I went to a breast surgeon today and he told me I need a guided core biopsy. Here is the information on the ultrasound from last week. I had the left breast done.
Left breast medial section. Redemonstration of an ill defined hupoechoic mass with posterior acoustic shadowing measuring approximately 9x6x4 mm. This is at 9:00 4 cm from the nipple.
Birads category 4 suspicious
What are the chances of this being cancerous?
Thanks
-
Roughly 70-80% of all biopsied masses are benign. Of course, that means there is about a 20-30% chance that it will be malignant. Right now, just try to hold on to the things you know to be true: there is a small unidentified mass present. We often say" it's not cancer until pathology proves it" and wasting time worrying about things like IBC and triple negative is unproductive. If this does turn out to be cancer, well, then you'll deal with YOUR tumor, with YOUR particular stats. No need to dwell on something that hasn't happened and MAY NEVER happen at all.

Thanks for the response it eased my mind a bit. Good luck with your journey.

Hi,
Just an update my insurance approved the biopsy to be done out of network. This is the same place I had a consultation with the breast Dr. I left a message to schedule the biopsy this morning and a nurse got back to me this afternoon saying that I needed to get the images from the first 2 mammograms in order to compare the records they have from the hospital that did the mmomogram and 2 ultrasounds this past month. She told me that they might even want me to do an ultrasound with them. This is driving me crazy! This has been the most scary month and a half of my life! We just lost my mother in law to Stage 4 lung cancer last year around this time and it's bringing up all of this again. My mind is racing and wondering if they find something else.l Has anybody ever had the run around with these tests and Dr.s?
Thanks for reading.

I found a lump back on June 11th. Within the first week and a half I went to the dr and then had a mammogram and ultrasound. The radiologist recommended a biopsy and that’s when the frustrations started. It took almost two weeks for the biopsy to even be scheduled. I finally had the biopsy today!
I hope you can get the biopsy done soon. Waiting is so hard and then when you throw in people who are moving at a snails pace... ugh!
-
Thanks for your reply. The waiting game is a pain but it's good you had the biopsy done. I hope you get b9 results.
-
Hi all,
Update : I'm having another ultrasound and a core guided biopsy next Wed. Please pray for me that it's b9.
Thanks

Hi my name is Maurice and I am in the same situation. I found a lump on my right side a year ago. Well I had more pain with my left, and they found 7 more lumps. Just 3 weeks ago they told me 1 looked suspicious. It about doubled in size. I'm super nervous. I have a biopsy next week on both sides since the lump on my right changed as well.
I haven't been able to sleep for 3 days now. I don't know what to do.
I am only 28 and have a heavy history of cancers and my mom having it as well. I also have 3 young kids, I go to college full time and I just am overloaded. I'm also 2k miles from my close family.
-
Sorry to hear all this Maurice, but you’ve come to the right place. Try to remain calm. When you have the biopsy result, report back here and you’ll. get all the advice you need if you do indeed have breast cancer.
-
Update : Had an ultrasound and a guided core biopsy yesterday. Will probably get results tomorrow. I hope it's b9. My mother in law passed away 1 yr ago tommorow from stage 4 lung cancer. The whole thing is eerie.

Fingrr crossed for uou!

-

Thanks it sure is!

I just found out mine it is called phyllodes tumor. My right says High Risk when the left clearly says benign. Both sides are phyllode tumors. I go in this week to talk to my doctor. They want them removed.
-
Hi,
The Dr. wants the mass removed and was given benign result via the biopsy last week. He didn't explain why. Any thoughts? Have any one else experienced this b4? I'm already thinking they can find cancer. Still feeling worried.
-
For me if it isn’t normal breast tissue, take it out! If the doctor wants to get rid of it then do it. I don’t think he wants it removed becuase he thinks the benign result isn’t true. I think he feels it’s just best to remove a tumor, cancerous or not ya know? I don’t know if keeping it in puts you more at risk for developing cancer (that’s something you can ask) but either way, I’d get it out if it were me.
-
Thanks will do surgery is next week.
-
According to THIS article from 2017 about 6% of phyllodes tumors can show malignant transformation
-
Thanks for the info.
