Vampeyes, I’m the lurker here. Would you mind sharing the cookie recipe

Absolutely! Here is the link Kath: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14z6zKR5lzyXUac...

Good Morning Peeps! I'm back from Notre Dame and my training. sooo intense, I had little time.. I can't even start to try and check on what I missed here...
Hope all is well with everyone.
My journey is changing a little. I am going to switch from my beloved Max gym to the local YMCA and/or LA Fitness. I did the Livestrong program at the Y, but LA Fitness seems to have a better pool. I really want to get back into the water. I also have to wire my mouth closed so that I stop eating bad stuff---- ug. My middle is thickening...
Didn't get to the gym, but did walk Sunday and Monday. Need a new routine...
Missed you guys!

Mindset during meal planning changes food choices and brain responses to food
A simple instruction to change your thinking as mealtime approaches can help cut calories, according to new research from the University of Tübingen, Germany. By encouraging study participants to concentrate on different types of information when planning their meal, the experimenters saw portion sizes shift. Adopting a health-focused mindset produced better outcomes than focusing on pleasure or the desire to fill up. These new findings were presented this week at the annual meeting of the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior, an international conference of experts on eating research.
-
vamps - Nothing wrong with almond flour! I was asking only because I love walnuts in my choc. chip cookies and am not sure if that is allowed on Paleo.
-
Junie - that's good news about not being allergic to nuts!
Here is a picture of last nights trial dinner - it wasn't bad, but I can't say I will make it again. It's called Bomba Burger - ground beef patty topped with pizza sauce, pepperoni and mozza cheese, wrapped in Keto pizza dough. I know, I know bad for the ER+ girls, but I can't give everything up. They were a hit with the twins, we had extra sauce for dipping.
-
Why would that be bad for ER+?
-
Cow cheese
-
You can get no-hormone, dairy-fed cow cheese. In moderation, I wouldn't see it as a problem. From what I see at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3357167/, the findings are equivocal (at least, in 2010 when the studies were evaluated. Everyone has to make her own decisions; I go mostly organic/natural/pastured, mostly plastic-free, mostly whole foods.
-
Hi Ksusan, I’ve never heard of no hormone milk/cheese. I read through the article and a couple of passages that jump out at me are-
“The relatively high levels of catechol estrogens detected in milk products support the theory that milk consumption is a source of EM and their ingestion may have a dietary influence on cancer risk.“
And- “ Full milk and processed varieties e.g. cheese contain a relatively high proportions of unsaturated fatty acids and are prone to be contaminated with persistent residues, e.g. pesticides, both thought to bear an influence on breast cancer incidence. Naturally, milk contains hormones and growth factors, e.g. Insulin-like Growth Factor 1, known for its growth promoting properties.”
Did I miss the part about the hormonefree milk and it having no effect certain cancers? Could you elaborate please?
-
The biggest concern that I've seen consistently is about steroids fed to cattle that create problems for consumers. I should have said "no added hormones."
-
I see. It’s just that all milk (whether from cows, goats, humans, or porpoises) naturally contains small amounts of various hormones, including estrogen and progesterone.
-
Ksusan, my husband was diagnosed with diabetes early April and he immediately started keto-ing. He has lost 49 pounds and has a normal BMI now and glucose back to normal ranges. He was super keto at first but gradually added in some watermelon, strawberries and cantaloupe. So it will defintely get you there. Use that healthy mindset mentined in the article you posted. I think that is so true. Eliminating grains makes you have to plan your meal to keep full. Before Paleo, maybe I would just eat pasta cause I was too tired to make a salad and marinara is a vegetable anyway (old minset). Now my mindset: “Is this going to kill me and what do I eat to be full andhealthy”.
-
I think a lot of us have been misinformed about hormones in our food.
-
It's all a balancing act.
TwoHobbies, how wonderful! I'm a week into keto and not finding it difficult. My FBS has dropped about 20, and I've lost 4.5#. Considering that tamoxopause has been making me gain steadily since last fall, losing any weight rather than putting on another pound is even more hopeful.
Swiss cheese "tortilla," crimini mushrooms sautéed in bacon grease, no-sugar tomato sauce, arbequina olives and a dash of Cholula, with prosciutto. (This is a salad plate, for portion size.)
-
Ksusan that looks delicious! Have you had the keto flu yet?
Cowgirl - thank you for posting that, looking at those numbers, I ate a lot of PB and bread - no wonder I have ER+ breast cancer. lol
-
This picture is very confusing. Where is this info coming from? Vamp, as to why we have ER positive BC, I haven’t eaten soy, peanuts, white bread and pinto bins at all, and still got it. So, don’t blame yourself. Nobody knows why we are where we are.
-
I hope I didn’t upset anyone with discussing dairy. I was striving to understand. I apologize if I did.
-
Vampeyes, I'm on day 8 and doing well. I was in ketosis by the 3rd day. I haven't had keto "flu" other than an episode of diarrhea. I took some psyllium fiber capsules and that took care of it. I had about a day of feeling overfull so I backed off the fat a bit. I have a note in to my PCP with my food log asking if I can up my vegetables. I'm eating small amounts of fruit because it's local and organic. A lot of it is from my garden as well. I'm not willing to sacrifice that.
-
Warrior - you didn't upset me, just saying.
Susan - that's fantastic that you didn't suffer with the flu. I don't know if I did, or if my nausea was related to something else. I don't think it was Keto, I don't beileve I get low enough to be in Keto. I gave up counting carbs and calories. lol
-
Warrior - I am not sure but if it was me that you were worried about upsetting over dairy, I assure you that I am not mad or offended. I view most of us on this forum as people trying to support others, share information and just do our darndest to beat cancer and not have it come back. There is so much information out there...many of it conflicting and we are all just trying to find our way.
Inna - If it was my picture you found confusing, the information was put out by Texas A&M University.
Everyone - Have a great weekend!
-
Thanks cowgal. Since this is a paleo thread, I wanted to make sure everyone knew that I wasn’t coming from a place of judgement or trying to offend anyone I agree. There’s so much info and we’re all just trying to do our best.
-
Just curious, has anyone found that you're physically unable to eat a specific non-paleo food after going paleo? I took my four-year-old, picky-eater DGD out for a "girls day" last week & we had fast food for dinner. I gave in to an impulse & had french fries (probably deep-fried in peanut oil) & was so miserable the next day that it will be a LONG time before I do that again! I used to eat them with no problem so I was surprised to have such an extreme reaction!
Ksusan, that looks delicious. When I start adding some dairy back in to my diet, I am going to try that. (And I'll make some of Vamp's cookies for dessert!)
Good to see you back, Map!
-
JKL I dont feel good if I have too many carbs, like a whole day of pasta and bread. and my heart will race if I have too much sugar. I hadnt thought of it consciously but maybe thats why I tend to keep it to mild cheats like having a pita with my meal or one slice of pizza.
Ksusan that does look delicious.
-
I am definitely taking in too many carbs. I gained a 1.5 lbs in a week - oops. Some how I got off track and need to find my way back to it. I am still eating LCHF/Paleo/Keto friendly foods, apparently just too many of them. Too many Keto cookies and mug cakes, they are just so darn delicious! I am going to start tracking as best I can with the carbs/net carbs.....today is out, already at 66 net carbs!! HOLY HANNAH. All I had was a protein shake (2 net carbs), I had lunch at Red Lobster, but I ate broccoli instead of the rice and didn't eat the tortillas that came with my shrimp tacos.... thought that was good, did my best to estimate my lunch net carbs (around 39), had a Caesar salad too, ate an apple for a snack (around 20 net carbs) and a Lemon minute muffin (5 net carbs) WOW does seem like a lot doesn't it??!!! For dinner zucchini pie made, haven't even tired to figure it out yet. UGH, God help me.
-
Vamp, you've convinced me not to make any more paleo desserts or snacks until I have reached my goal weight! I have a massive sweet tooth & I've never been good at self-discipline (does anyone else eat all the fun-size candy bars left over after Halloween?) so it's just easier not to have any temptations in the house. Sigh ... Egads makes all of this sound so easy!
-
JKL - she really does make it sound easy, but I suppose if you don't have a sweet tooth it would be easier. *sigh* I thought I was doing pretty good till I got on the scale this am! (I hide the mini chocolate bars so I forget about them)
-
After a blur of a Toronto trip (so much fun, left my heart there AGAIN), a 6 hour wait for my delayed flight and a busted home plumbing system upon arrival, I'm back! In one piece! Oh how I missed y'all!!!
Looks like I have my reading cut out for me, wanna catch up on everything and everyone!! From a quick flip through it looks like there's been some delish cooking going on in here....awesome!!
Big hugs to all......3 cheers that I can't do laundry because of our broken drain pipe!! HIP HIP HOOORAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
Did I mention I missed y'all??
))))))
p.s. Ksusan, welcome to the cave chick club\!!|....happy to see you join us! Tiger skin dress and shiny new club are in the closet to the right
))
-
I am completely off the wagon... don't know what happened to my self discipline...Need to get back on track before I gain too much and can't get in my clothes!
I am switching gyms to one with a pool and aqua fitness class! I've been having issues keeping up with my old class and my gym buddies have all switched.
Also still having those heavy chest issues.. might be time to revisit with dr.. sigh... Hubby's b'day last night.. went to a Portugese place and oh, those "chips".....
of course, the hot flash came on and I had a hard time breathing.. Anyone else get that with the hot flashes?? its awful! Or maybe its just the heavy hot humidity giving me issues. My heart and lung tests always come back normal....
Well, sorry to gripe... I'm having a little bit of a pity party right now...diagnosis is starting to catch up to me...(can you say delayed reaction???)
-
JKL - **Egads comes to screeching stop beside JKL with 'the wagon' loaded up with all the cave chicks** jump in, you can ride shotgun!! Pick a 'party is over' date and move forward, no regrets and no beating yourself up. Stuff happens! You can do it, I know ya' can!
Hot flashes...ugggg...restaurant food (salt) and going from humid to A/C brings them on quicker than white on rice!
The breathing...yes go back and advocate for answers, our lively & lovely Vamp has a ton of experience with this and might be able to help. Are you on Tamoxifen?
Delayed reaction....very common throughout the boards here, and no wonder! We're on high mode during diagnosis and treatment, fallout sometimes happens when life gets back to somewhat normal...add that to your breathing issues and yeah, it's bound to have an effect. Do you have a good support system in your family & friends?
