i am having a lumpectomy tomorrow and was doing ok but now scared of what they might find. My biopsy is 6mm and contained. Tomorrow they will remove tumor and check nodes. Just wondering if biopsy and pathology are usually the same. I think knowing i have cancer is freaking me out.

I would think most times it is the same. Mine was exactly the same. Peace!

My biopsy and post surgery pathology results are very different as shown in my signature. Be prepared if you have a large tumor. Take it easy.

    hi

I had my lumpectomy July 10 and just got pathology today - different diagnosis I’m afraid (ADH to DCIS/LCIS/ADH). I was totally unprepared for this as I’d read it was usually the same as biopsy

My pathology was largely the same. Unfortunately there's no way to predict this, but the good news is you'll soon have the full picture and can move forward with treatment. And that's great! Good luck.

Mine didn’t show any differences. The path report and biopsy were the same.

Mine were different. My cancer is very rare (1-2% of breast cancers) and can be difficult to examine under slides. My biopsy AND lumpectomy pathology reports said DCIS, but when it was sent out for Oncotype, the Oncotype lab called my RO and said that two of their pathologists agreed it was invasive. Then the idiot pathologist at my hospital looked at it again, carefully this time, and showed it around and everyone agreed it was invasive. I went from not needing Tamoxifen to being on it for the next five years.

I had my surgery (lumpectomy) which is 8 mm DCIS, All went well , not much pain. Today I received my pathology report which has clear margins and clear lymph so beyond thankful and relieved. Now, I need to decide whether to do radiation.

Well my original biopsy said IDC. Upon pathology after mastectomy the size remained the same, 7mm, but the tumor was actually ILC with DCIS and LCIS in it.

    Glad it went well.

Mine was just a little bit different. Went from IDC to IDC with Lobular Features. Grade was same as were the PR, ER, HER2 and Ki67.
