Had a core needle biopsy a few weeks ago, he took four samples, received the results last Tuesday, benign, received a call on Thursday from the nurse stating they took the samples from the wrong spot, had to go today for a sterotactic mammogram biopsy, now waiting for new results. My question, is it common practice for them to miss the lump, has anyone else experienced this?

Happens a few times a year in any department in my experience. The radiologist reviews the path report to see if its consistent with what they thought it looked like on imaging. If these opinions dont match there is usually a re-biopsy. Its a safeguard making missing a cancer less likely. Let us know what the new biopsy shows.
