Recurring Papillomas?

I’m under 40, no history of breast cancer in my family.

December 2016, I went in for nipple discharge. The biopsy showed a benign intraductal papilloma. I had it removed February 2017. It’s now January 2018, my annual checkup since the surgery, and another benign papilloma was found. Doctors, of course, want to do surgery to remove this one.

I would like to know if this is common to have 1 removed only to have one replace it? I don’t want to make surgery a yearly occurrence.

My doctor says, “considering my age & lack of family history, the chances of cancer are less than 10%”. If not removed, I would come back for a 6 month follow up. If there are any symptoms or changes, have it removed.

The doctors assistant told me there are cases where benign papillomas have gone away on their own. Has this happened for anyone?

    Hi Mydanni....I do not have any answers for you ..Sorry. ..as up to 5 days ago i never heard the word papilloma before...I am hoping you can help me ...I had a lumpectomy on my right breast in 2016 for dcis...It was successful but with one unwanted side affect. ..loss of nipple sensation.. During my annual mamogram check up followed by an ultrasound and biopsy I was told what they think they are looking at is a small papilloma and if that is confirmed with the biopsy results they will remove it..waiting on my results at the moment...as this is my left breast I am worried about loss of sensation in this nipple too....my question for you is ..have you had any loss of sensation after your papilloma removal?

    I am surprised that only a year later you have another papilloma !!!! How awful for you..I am sorry to hear that but I do wish you well with making a decision on what you should do ... my only advice would be do what is right for you ..❤

    I had 3 surgeries to remove papillomas (total of 6 or 7). I had a wire guided biopsy with 4 different sites biopsied in one surgery. I had so many papillomas throughout both breasts that they could not all be removed and they came back. I went with preventative mastectomies. I just felt that it was not a situation of if they turned malignant but when they would. This was 9 years ago and I have not regretted my decision.
