I am sure this has been discussed before, but is it normal to feel fatigued after lumpectomy(2). I feel okay in the morning but by the afternoon I can barely keep by eyes open. I am trying to force myself to get back into my routine and the gym. I just want to start feeling like myself again

So glad you asked this question because I've been feeling the same. I had a lumpectomy July 10th and fatigue very easily. I do a few things around the house and get so tired. I shop a little (my daughter takes me) and I'm whipped out before the end of the day. I don't sleep during the day but lay in bed or on the sofa on and off for several hours. I've rarely gone out since my surgery because of this but I'm going to try to get back to walking a little every day to build up my strength.

I found this article, which makes sense to me:

    Feeling Fatigue After Surgery

You are not alone. I had my surgeries 6/28 and 7/11. Adding to the mix, my knee arthritis kicked in so getting around is hard. I went shopping for college with my daughter yesterday. By the time I got home I was exhausted. I also need to start building up my strength and stamina. My eating habits haven't been that great, guess it's part of my little pity party.

I think healing from surgery is a drain and we should give ourselves the rest and nutrients we need. I slept a lot for at least a month and craved protein almost at every meal. I did start walking three days out from surgery and increased my activity as I felt up to it.

viewfinder, thanks for the link to that article.

I so glad Whome8 I am glad you asked this question. I had a BM on 6/25. I am progressively feeling better but I am like you I get tired. I got out yesterday and shopped I did drive, hot home and I was hurting bad and so tired. Recovering from this surgery has taken much longer than I thought it would. We just need to be more patient with ourself's

I am exhausted still as well! Had my lumpectomy on the 19th. I am still having trouble finding a comfortable sleeping position so I think that may be part of my problem. SNB area is getting better but still sore. I usually am a “burn my candle at both ends” kind of girl and I’m finding it hard to just sit still and heal. I also have been nauseous for the past 2 1/2 days. Wondering if it could be delayed reaction to anesthesia? The only meds I’m taking are 400mg ibuprofen every 6-8 hours. I go for post op appointment tomorrow to see bs and get final pathology result. Can’t wait to hear what it says.

Today is the first day I actually feel like myself. I spent the day out with my friend yesterday and I think that helped a lot.

I think we need to realize our bodies take time to heal and we should respect that. Hard to do as a mom and woman.

Hope your BS appt went well.

took me quite a while after the mastectomy to feel back to normal. I blamed it on the anesthesia...I forced myself to keep moving and rest when I needed it. Our bodies took a beating.

Yes quite normal. Take it easy, your body will tell you when to slow down.
