I actually posted a day or 2 ago about pain in my right breast from a hit caused by my vacuum cord (I know it sounds ridiculous). The pain hasn’t lessened or worsened since. It been a month. The area is tender but I can’t seem to feel any distinguishable lumps. I though it was just sore from being hit so hard but I think not after a month has passed. This afternoon I was poking and prodding (as I’ve done just about everyday for a month) and this time I squeezed and got some sticky green discharge. It literally looks like an infection. Now I’m in full on panic mode!!! I was planning to call my OB once I was done with my period but I cant wait that long. I’ll have to call Monday. Has anyone else experienced nipple discharge like this? I’m assuming this is quite bad :( please help!

even if it’s only out of the one breast that also has the pain? I’ve never had discharge before with the exception of 13 years ago when I got mastitis after the birth of my sonand was pumping out green milk...

Mammo tech for 16 years here. Not a dr or genius..just lots of experience. Green or yellow discharge usually does mean infection. Bloody or clear is something more suspicious and even then still doesn't mean cancer 100 percent of the time. Sounds like you had trsuma to your breast. You need to see your dr for an antibiotic. I wouldn't be in full panic mode but you need to be seen. Good luck and i know it's easy for me to say don't panic!

thank you so much for your reply cjzach10. I now can squeeze green liquid out of BOTH nipples.. what the heck is going on!!? I’m a nervous wreck and can’t seem to make sense out of any of this and can’t call my doctor until Monday.

Please does anyone have any other experience or info about this sort of thing?

Did you read the John's Hopkins link?

yes I did read it and thank you for sharing it. I think it’s just the fact that I have pain that localized and not near the nipple (although it hurts around my nipple now from squeezing yesterday). My sore spot is higher up. A benign polyp? I think that’s what your link mentioned. But then why nipple discharge out of both nipples?

anyone else have any experience with this? I don’t know wether to feel more concerned or less at the idea of discharge from both nipples. I’ve never had that, ever. And there’s still the very tender spot in my upper inner right breast at about the 1 or 2 o’clock position 2 or 3 inches away from the nipple. I can’t feel a lump but that means nothing.

    I’m a nervous wreck :(

My clear yellow discharge turned slightly green and sticky just before my biopsies for an area of concern located right near my nipple. It turned out to be a papilloma (benign--not cancer). During my work up, several doctors and nurses cautioned me that women should NOT to squeeze their breasts or nipples to "check for" discharge as it can actually cause a discharge. If you try to leave your breast alone, wear a good bra (tuck a white tissue in front of each nipple to monitor spontaneous discharge), and see your doctor, I'm certain all shall be well. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thank you deepwaters for responding. It helps to hear other people going through similar situations. I was looking up papillomas but with discharge out of both nipples I’m not sure that applies. Although the discharge is not happening on it’s on. On the sore breast the only reason I squeezed is becuase I happened to noticed the very tiniest sheen of liquid so I squeezed a bit and got a drop of green stuff. It wasn’t until later that night I tested the other nipple (guess I shouldn’t have done that) and saw that it to has a tiny drop. Plus the tender area I have feels almost too far away from the nipple to be that, but made so. Are they typically located right up next to the nipple?

DeepWatersI forgot to ask was your papilloma painful when pressed? Could you feel a bump?

A couple of indications in mammography to NOT perform a galactogram..discharge out of both nipples or more than one orafice in one nipple and any color of discharge other rhan clear or bloody. That's been the recommendation of most of the radiologists I've worked for. Discharge out of both nipples in and of itself favors a benign condition. Like an infection. And like the post before me squeezing your nipples can actually make it worse.

I did have discharge out of more than one orafice on the breast that has the tender area.

Maybe I am having serious hormonal problems or something! Ugh I wish I could see my OB tomorrow!

Thanks again for taking the time to respond. I truly appreciate it.

I had this over 20 years ago in my leftt breast . I was told it was benign - ductal ecstasia I think. Get it checked but take some deep breaths

thank you BAZelda. I had to look up ductal ecstasia. It seems plausible. I’ll keep that in mind when I go to the dr.

Been doing warm compresses to see if that helps and it does feel really darn good on the tender spot on my breast I have to say! Still painful but a little relief is better than none lo

    thanks DJmammo

I’d be curious to know how often benign discharge occurs in women who also had targeted pain in one breast.

The pain is actually a little better than it was but it’s still there.

greenish yellow breast discharge can be totally normal and not an indicator of infection. I’ve had it depending on where I am in my cycle. I even showed a breast specialist the color and it’s also been sent to pathology to analyze and it was totally normal. Mine was even a darker green

thanks lala44, based on the discharge I’ve got (darker green, both nipples only when I squeeze and out of multiple orfaces), I learned that it’s fairly normal. At this point it’s the localized ongoing breast pain that is causing me the most worry.Thank you for taking the time to respond :)
