Swollen Nodes after Lumpectomy
Hi everyone,
I had a duct excision 3 weeks ago and was diagnosed with DCIS with intraudctal Papilloma. Type is Papillary. Size 6 mm, ER slightly elevated, and grade 2. Anyway on tuesday I noticed the lymphnode under my arm was super sore and enlarged. It only makes sense that it's likely from the surgery , but it seems odd that it's occurring this far out without an active infection. So it's making me nervous. I haven't seen my Oncologist yet about what steps we are taking, but I did go to my family doctor who gave me antibiotics. He said it didn't appear to be an infection, but it could be.He wanted to rule it out so I didn't go to the cancer clinic tuesday and have to wait another week for the meds to work or not, and then proceed with figuring out the cause. He did say it could be related to the cancer ( in that there is more ) Did anyone experience this? I know DCIS doesn't spread, but I think I'm just anxious that perhaps I have more cancer hiding out somewhere . I was diagnosed through one biopsy and no imaging, so it's not impossible. Just looking for other experiences after lumpectomy to see if this is common (the node swelling) .
Thanks

Hi BAP,
So sorry you've had some complications arising from your recent surgery.
Yes, an enlarged lymph node under the arm can be extremely sensitive to touch.
When I had a swollen lymph node under my arm (shortly before BC dx) Curcumin worked best for me. Please check with your doctor first.
"Curcumin is a COX inhibitor. COX is an enzyme that turns signaling molecules from "barely inflammatory or anti-inflammatory" into "potently inflammatory" and is vital for the cells of the body to mount a defense. However, it's also the most common way the body can screw up and end up over-producing inflammatory signals.... Curcumin is just the herbal equivalent of Ibuprofen. After my 1st surgery, my swollen lymph node under my arm had been found to be tied in a knot or "matted" with a 2nd & 3rd lymph node. My 3 nodes had been "fixed" to each other due to past infections, NOT because cancer cells were growing on the outside of the nodes. Pathology had been found to be NEGATIVE on my nodes.

Causes are many and could be fungal, bacterial, antigenic or viral, etc., so NOT TO WORRY!
Wishes for peace of mind and healing!

I had a lumpectomy just over two weeks ago. The other day I found a lump in the middle of the incision they made for the node extractions. The lump is about the size of a nickle, it's hard and hurts when touched. There is no indication that it is infected. I spoke with surgeon's nurse yesterday and she said it is normal.
I don't know if yours is from complications of surgery, but it wouldn't hurt to call your doctor's office.
