NO BIOPSY?

I found a lump in my breast when I was 38 weeks pregnant with my second baby. Long story short my obgyn ordered an ultrasound a few weeks after I gave birth because the lump was still there. I went for my first appointment about 6 weeks pp. I was breast feeding. Dr diagnosed me with a benign tumor. He never did a biopsy because he didn’t want to stop my milk supply. Skip ahead 6 months, I go In for a follow up, I am no longer breast feeding, lump is still there. Still a tumor. Said they are pretty sure it isn’t cancer. I go in a year later for another follow up. Lump is still there. Measuring a tiny bit smaller. Dr opened the door half way said hey worry about tumors that are growing not shrinking and I should be fine. That’s all. They have never done a biopsy still. I do have a ALOT it symptoms but they all could be from other things in my life too. Has this happened anyone? I find it odd they’ve diagnosed it as a tumor but no biopsy

    I could be wrong, but that seems just nuts to me. They should at least order a mammogram. How long ago was the ultrasound? And how old are you? I think they sometimes don't take young women seriously enough. Have you seen a breast surgeon, or is this still your ob/gyn? I'd recommend getting a breast surgeon's opinion, if you haven't already. I hope you can get a more definitive answer soon, and that it's benign.

    It would be unusual for a cancer to go an entire year and not enlarge. It would be even more unusual for one to get smaller in a year's time.

    Do you have any reports of the US with a detailed description of the mass?

    Thank you both for responding, yes I am young. 24. I wondered if breast milk would make my tumor to appear larger and once I stopped producing milk, it appeared to be smaller and that’s why they think it’s shrinking? I am not a doctor so I have no idea just something I was concerned about. I Just found another lump in my other breast. I wonder if benign tumors can spread. Guess I’ll make another appt to make sure.

    With some of my imaging my tumor measured larger or smaller depending on the type of imaging, and whether or not the tumor had more or less inflammation around it due to trauma, my menstrual cycle, etc. So no, I don't think it's impossible that a cancerous tumor could measure smaller on a different day, with different imaging, or even just with a different person measuring it!

    A persistent palpable lump should really be looked at more closely. I'm not a doctor either, but I know my body and I found all THREE of my cancers myself, despite my doctor assuring me that it was not cancer two of those times. Listen to your body and if you have concerns and doubts, keep pushing for more definitive answers. I don't want to scare you, because the odds are in your favor that it's benign, but better safe than sorry. Please keep us posted.

    No I don’t have any pictures, and I don’t remeber the description of the diagnosis because I thought I was fine 2 years ago when they said it was benign. I’m sure I could call and get it though right

    They will send you your reports to you upon request. You might be able to download them from a patient portal.
