Perhaps my lymph nodes are always swolen?

When I had a unilateral mastectomy in Jan '16, the surgeon was very surprised that my nodes were clean because they were quite enlarged. My armpit has been swolen since then, but I have not given it a second thought, nor has my MO. FFW to today: I found a 7mm lump near the scar a week ago. During the ultrasound, the radiologist seemed very "interested" in my lymph nodes and ordered a biopsy of the lump and node. I'm expecting a call tomorrow or Wednesday. My question: does anyone here have chronically large lymph nodes that are completely healthy? At the moment, that prospect is what's keeping me sane.

I can't really answer but I had swollen nodes that we biopsied and were negative and they did not light up on my PET Scan. Then when they did the mastectomy they were still negative, so maybe there are other underlying issues that your body is fighting off? I had a cold when they did my MRI so I blamed the swollen nodes on that, but really, who knows.

rdeesides, thank you for your feedback. I received the call this morning... positive breast mass and lymph node. Awaiting ER, PR, and HER/nue status. In the meantime, MRI, CT Scan, mammogram on righty. Oncologist's best guess at the moment is surgery and radiation. If the hormone status is the same as the original, I will not do chemo. So there's the silver lining....

    Hope you are doing well.

Piksie, I see you are in San Diego like me. Where are you going for treatment? Sorry to hear about the positive nodes. Definitely a silver lining of not having to do chemo though. Radiation isn't so bad. Hopefully your hormone status will be the same.

    UCSD. How about you?

Another silver lining... we live in America's Finest City. :)

I was at Scripps but I switched to an MO up in Orange County. I'm almost done with treatment though and still following up with my plastic surgeon and breast surgeon at Scripps.

I'm sure you will get great care at UCSD.

Scripps is supposed to be partnering with MD Anderson so that they have access to all their clinical trials and such, but I don't think they've gotten the details all worked out yet.
