Moffit is in Tampa. I'm driving an hour to go there.

Good plastic surgeon there that you like? I'm scheduled for Aug 7 mastectomy with expanders, etc. and then I'm moving from Pa to Fla Aug. 31. I'm wondering if I should just wait until I get down there... So torn btw getting it over with and not being able to travel/move my stuff, etc.

Lorih555 - I would not attempt to move that soon after surgery. In the absence of a reason for urgent surgery - I would instead call ahead and set up appts so you can proceed with surgery as soon as possible afteryou arrive in FL.

When I got my dx, I remember a friend telling me that her mother, who was small breasted, had a lumpectomy (she only had one relatively small tumor). Because she was small to begin with however, it ended up leaving a noticeable “hole” in her breast. If she had more fatty tissue, it probably wouldn’t have been noticeable. Sheeventually had a mastectomy (or something like it) and an implant to correct the appearance. Perhaps that’s something to consider? I’m sorry the doctor wasn’t sensitive. I remember being so shocked that I could barely think at all when I found out I had BC. The last thing you need is someone not being gentle and kind.

I have smaller breast and plastic surgeon and surgeon, I had 2 opinions said with smaller breast mastectomy is the best option. In lampectony the cancer can return but also cosmetically it won’t be the best option.

I would go for different doctor and have another opinion! Good luck

I too had a lumpectomy. Only the tumors come out. Afterward your breast will look normal. Mine did anyway. With a mastectomy you do need plastic surgery to rebuild a breast. I had opted for a mastectomy till the plastic surgeon said no to rebuilding a breast for me. So that’s why I did a lumpectomy. My husband is pleased with how I look. If you can afford to get a second or third opinion go for it. You need to fight for your rights. Somewhere there is an answer for you.
