To chemo or not to chemo?

My oncodx score was a huge black cloud at 34. Well I chose no chemo and did 4 years AI drugs after 7 years still cancer free. Happy with my decision.

“I didn’t want to take hormonal therapy and was banking on the low score helping me decide against taking Tamoxifen.”
I just want to point out that a low score indicates your chances of recurrence while taking Tamoxifen. (I believe those chances are doubled if you do not take it.) The Oncolotype is mainly to show whether or not you will benefit from chemo and your chances of recurrence while on an antihormonal. -
DTR... as an option since you are on the fence of even needing chemo, would be to do a 'gentler' chemo.. I did TC 7 years ago and never got my hair back and still suffer exteremely painful neuropathy in my feet, to where I have not been able - for 7 years - to wear closed toed shoes or stand on my feet for long. Taxotere is no joke and I would not suggest it unless it was the only option for you. CMF is a much milder yet effective choice.. Ask your doc about their thoughts on it. Best of luck.. crappy decisions we have to make!

hi Jackster51 - thanks for your feedback. I hope it helps someone out there. I did post an update about a month ago. I did not have to do chemo after all. As you can imagine, it was a huge relief for me. I’m so sorry for all that you have gone through and still going through. I actually was about to do TC if I did end up having to go through chemo.
Are there any options for you for hair growth and the neuropathy

Yes, I realize that, but at first they didn't think I would need chemo and I had pretty much decided I didn't want to take anti hormonals at all. But then, the score came back intermediate but close to high and my thoughts about taking anti hormonals began to change because I did not do chemo. Still on the fence about anti hormonals.

FWIW, the last time I saw my BS we had a general discussion about tx. He said AIs give the biggest bang for your buck—that if he had a family member who was refusing them he’d grind them up and put themin her oatmeal. He is a very strong supporter.

Hello ladies in this topic,
I'm also at the same boat im 34,i had 4 cycles of chemo already which is AC but really hesitant and confused if i will do the remaining 2 cycle as my MO told me need to get 6 cycles. We don't have oncotype DX test here and no other chemo drug was discuss to me i'm just hearing all infos here and don't even know the terms AC and TC until i joined here so i am needing some insights to. The SE's of those 4 cycles was rough on me.
