I thought I was home free up to 5 days after surgery. I was taking no pain meds. Maybe it was leftover drugs from the operation. At day 6 after surgery I started getting more and more pain. I don't know if it's these damn drain tubes or the surgery. Is that normal? Going on 2 weeks with these drain tubes and I'm still getting very deep red blood from my left side (about 50ml per day) My right side has lighted up in color and I'm finally getting about 30ml a day. I'm concerned something is wrong. Is this all normal? Thank you

I had a lumpectomy, and my drain was clear after 5 days. You need to call your surgeon. Best wishes!

You had a much more serious surgery than I. Hope others who had the same surgery will comment.

Where are you having pain? Is it the side that's still draining red?

Yes my left side. It seems to be where the tube is coming out. The blood coming out is still very very red.

When you say your right side has "lighted up in color", what do you mean? Are you talking about the tissue of the right breast or the color of the blood in drains? Either way, you need to call your doctor, but red/pink tissue indicates possible infection and needs to be treated right away. I just spent 2 days on IV antibiotics for an infection and am now on 2 oral antibiotics. As for pain, I found that some days were ok and some days were really tough in the first weeks after surgery. (I am 8 weeks post bmx now.) I developed nerve pain 2 weeks post-surgery - felt like the worst sunburn/hypersensitive skin ever, and after weeks of begging my surgeon for help, he finally referred me to a pain specialist, thank goodness. This is a very tough surgery so give yourself some grace and down time. Good luck!

Deamo1, I had a lot of pain at my breast drain sights. I had my drains in for 12 days post op. You will get some pain relief when the drains come out. ReadyAbout is right, the nerve pain can be pretty intense between weeks 2-4. I turned the corner at week 5.

Rest, drink lots of water and rest some more. Your body has a lot of healing to do

It's worth letting your doc know that the left side is still draining red and has pain.

definitely let doc know that side is draining deep red. Any clots in it? It could be a surgical seroma or hematoma.

Saw the surgeon today. One drain out and one stays. There was a clot and as soon as she cleared it 150cc's came out. HOLY COW!
