Second round of “Red Devil” tomorrow. My port is also being weird.

It also “hurts" like I have a too tight pony tail. It's shoulder length now- already cut off 10" but should I just buzz it?

I don't want to wake up with my bun on a pillow. I think I'm ready except I'm getting married Saturday and thought I could at least hold on until then.

Sorry if I'm doing this posting wrong.

Thanks,

K

    Hi LouMum!

My hair fell out in very large handfuls after my second AC treatment (yes, that's as unpleasant as it sounds) and it took me about 5 days to go from a full head of hair to looking like Linus from the Peanuts comics. For me, that aching, too-tight-ponytail feeling was the indication that it was starting, and it got progressively worse until all my hair was gone.

I never did buzz mine, I refused to - I had long, thick, dark hair that was halfway down my back, I dreaded losing it all, so I cut it short (for the first and only time in my life) just before I started chemo, to get used to it and to cut down on the mess when it started falling out. Just do what you're comfortable with, whatever works best for you, there's no one right way to approach this whole messy situation.

I wouldn't expect it all to fall out at once, but if your experience is anything like mine, it'll fall out progressively over the coming days. Maybe try not to handle it too much or brush it too roughly if you need it to hang on a little longer - when mine started to fall out, it mostly came out in clumps when I combed it or ran my hands through it.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this just before your wedding!! I hope you can hang on to your hair for a few more days. <3

I had very long, thick hair also, cut and donated most of it prior to chemo. Surprisingly, when it started falling out, I just helped it along day by day until most of it was gone. For some reason, it didn't make me that emotional.. I did save enough hair to make a set of bangs and engineered it to put on a head band and wear under bandanas for a while. I guess I didn't want it to "win" and that was my way of fighting back! LOL There is a company that will actually make them for you, but I can't remember who it is. Most of it did finally fall out, and I looked like a molting parrot, but once I stopped chemo, I felt little fuzzies starting to emerge! I like the Linus comparison-perfect! Just do what feels right for you. There is no right or wrong way. If you are thinking of a wig and in the states, the American cancer society will give you one. Sometimes med ins will cover the cost with a script from your Dr. also. There is also a website that offers one free scarf/headcover I believe. Google and you shall find! My hair came back very curly and I loved it. Now, it is back to normal, just a bit thinner.

Best wishes to you both! LouMum, Congratulations on your wedding:)

I buzzed it but left longer side bangs like a pixie. It was coming in clumps and I was ready. Now project keep eyelashes until after wedding Saturday (but I have fakers just in case, I’m just terrible at putting them on)

    Thank you both

I didn't lose my eyelashes and eyebrows until halfway through my four Taxol treatments (the AC didn't affect them at all), so I would think yours are safe for now. :)

(Also, despite all info to the contrary, my eyebrows and eyelashes started coming back very quickly after I finished chemo, so they're not always slow to come back.)

I hope your wedding is everything you dreamed it would be, despite this whole cancer mess. <3
