Hi.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? What was your outcome?

Long story short: About a month ago I noticed an indent on one of my breasts. After a couple weeks, I made an appt with my PCP which prompted a diagnostic mammogram and US (note: I have a family history of BC in women dx in late 30's and I had a mam & US for discharge in 2015). Had the mam and US, which resulted in a core needle biopsy for "something" with an acoustic shadow near the dimpling/behind the nipple (reported as BI-RADS 4C). Today they called and told me the biopsy was negative but has sent me to a breast specialist for a MRI because I have "busy breasts" and they aren't sure the biopsy needle got the target tissue. Now I have to wait another week for the MRI...

I'm sorry you're going through all this. There's nothing quite like finding something going on with our breasts, is there? I hope they can figure this out for you. As you probably already know, BIRADs4c conveys a high suspicion of malignancy. Here's a site that I found really helpful when I was going through my experience. https://breast-cancer.ca/bi-rads/ Hope it helps. At any rate, most of us find this waiting period to be excrutiating. Once you have your results and a plan you will probably feel more in control, even if its not good news. Let us know how it goes for you.

Thank you for the website recommendation!

My husband (who is a MD) went straight to the doomsday scenario after reading the mam and US reports, which has kind of freaked me out. But the worst part is waiting for sure. The radiology-pathology discordance just compounds the stress. So I'm now off to the MRI for the next evaluative step. My primary doctor called me today and said the pathology analysis reported completely benign fatty breast tissue. When that is combined with what the breast radiology clinic RN told me yesterday about their concern that they did not get the target tissue, the chance that they completely missed the lesion during the biopsy seems possible. Ugh....
