I’m 37 and I’m confused on which procedure to pick. Dr said mastectomy or lumpectomy with 7 weeks radiation.

I was diagnosed with the same thing at 41. Have you consulted with a breast surgeon or radiation oncologist? I decided on a lumpectomy with 4 weeks of radiation, but this was based on a lot of other info and both specialists recommendations. The path that was right for me may not be the best for you. I hope you find medical teams that you like and trust as I was able to and it made a huge difference to me. Best wishes!

it’s a personal choice. I chose a BMX for my own peace of mind. Neither choice is better than the other. I just didn’t want radiation exposure. I had immediate reconstruction, and my boobs look fabulous!

I realize that this is not always a result of everyone; but for me and my family, it was the best.

I wish you the best. Please keep us posted.

I've talked to my breast surgeon and plastic surgeon. They both said lumpectomy with radiation. Plastic surgeon recommended a lift at the same time as lumpectomy. I see the radiation oncologist and medical oncologist next week. I guess I'm scared of radiation because I have really dense breast tissue and not much left after losing my excess weight. Everybody keeps telling me different things and I'm so confused on the better route for me. 35 treatments of radiation seems like a lot

It can be hard waiting to talk to all the different doctors and getting all the puzzle pieces for figuring out your plan of action. Have they done an MRI?? For me that was a big factor in helping make my decision. Hang tight for those next appts, you might even gain some clarity on what you think you’d like to do

I also wanted to add I didn’t actually make my final decision on radiation until after my surgery. Lumpectomy with no radiation is an option for some people
