Pain with redness with blood along post surgery incision area

Hi, I had left mastectomy with a breast lift on the right at the same time in October 2016. Just lately I noticed blisters on the bottom of the right breast, underneath. I attribute it to sweating. Then I notice blood on my bra. So I am not taking any chances, so I went to my GP and he looked at it. He is now sending me for an ultrasound, and I had a mammogram 4 months ago, it was ok. It is now hurting after the doctor was feeling around to check it. I looked at it in the mirror today and that whole post surgery line at the bottom is really red and thick. It has never done this before and like I said it is almost 2 years post op. Plus the blood, as I was saying, which I believe came from the blister that opened. It is not bleeding anymore.

Has anyone else had this problem? Should I be very concerned. I mean we should be concerned about anything that does something like this. Thank you.

There is a condition called hidradentitis supporativa that usually appears on any areas of skin that rub other areas of skin (under breasts, in joint creases, etc). Most docs will tell you the condition is caused by sweating. Others will tell you it's autoimmune related. And just a handful will tell you it's caused by an endospore bacteria. (I'm in the autoimmune or infection camp). Anyway, It's possible that it could be this or even just a run of the mill abcess and perhaps an infection set in that is causing the redness. Definitely see your doc sooner than later and get it assessed so you can start an antibiotic if nothing else. Good luck!🍀

Great reply, Lula73. If you are concerned, it is always a good idea to get it checked out, which you are doing. Please keep us posted.

Thank you Lula73. Sorry, I have just been preoccupied with a few things. I did have the ultrasound and it showed nothing abnormal. So it is a relief. I have trust issues with radiologists though, as my breast cancer was not caught as early as it could have been, by a radiologist that neglected to do a biopsy and my G.P. also for not following up on it with me. So, my faith in doctors is kind of low. But this radiologist advised me to go back and talk to my doctor about what is causing this. I think you may be right regarding an abscess/infection. It does hurt a bit too. It just seems weird that it would occur almost 2 years after my surgeries? What could have caused it to just show up like that? I will talk to my doctor and ask about an antibiotic? I appreciate your response. It was informative, as I googled a lot of it regarding abscesses after breast reduction, which is what I had in my right breast. It happens more than we think.
