14 y old girl with abscess

Is my worry justified? I feel the doctors have not enough knowledge and do not take this seriously. My daughter was at a ultrasound because of pain, redness and swellowing in her breast. It came suddenly and she had the pain and the heavy feeling for over a week. The ultrasound doctor found an abscess and took a bacteriatest, but no cell- or tissue samples. There were no bacterias in the fluid. The next doctor said there are no need for further examination and we have a check appointment in august. The breast is better, but is there need for a biopsy?     We know its scary... but we're sure that our experienced and always supportive members will come along soon to offer some words and advice.

    At your daughter's age, the likelihood of it being cancer is very, very low. Anyway, you were wise to go visit a doctor because even when it's not cancer there are other benign conditions that may need a treatment.

    It sounds like everything is improving. It is extremely, EXTREMELY unlikely for this to be breast cancer at her age. Youthful breasts are prone to lots of benign lumps, bumps, rashes, and infections. Biopsies are not without risks and may leave lumpy scar tissue behind. Most surgeons won't do a biopsy, and insurance may not pay for a biopsy, unless there is reasonable evidence that there may be malignancy present. In your daughter's case, at age 14, breast cancer is probably the most remote possibility of all diagnoses. Believe me, if the doctors thought this was breast cancer they would be falling all over themselves to get the case presented in an international medical conference.
