Hello, I currently know someone very close to me who is currently going through stage 1b. This person is very private so I am not given much information. I worry a lot and I am often confused. This is what I know.

She has stage 1 confirmed as of eight months ago. From what I gathered it does not grow because of estrogen. Instead of immediately getting surgery, she was given four cycles of Xeloda to shrink it prior to surgery. From what I've researched, Xeloda is for spreading. Allegedly it has not spread to nodes. There was a suspicious lump in the armpit that was determined not to be positive. She is extremely sick and frail.

my question is, is this treatment normal or is this due to her decision or possibly aggressive, fast moving, or further along then what she states?

I am surprised that she is stage 1, usually means tumor is less than 2cm. I haven't heard of needing to shrink a tumor that size but I am not sure. It might be where the tumor is that they want to shrink it first.

She told me that they want to shrink it due to it's location. Sometimes I just don't know what is true and what is not. Does that seem logical?

Yes, I figured it would be something like that. When they remove the cancer they want to get clean margins so even though it is small they probably feel they might not get it all.
