Not sure what to think and it's driving me crazy

Hi. I am new here. The question I have is this. I have a small lump under my armpit that is painless. It's visible when I put my arms up. There is also a risen area below it that is also visible. I've been going crazy looking at it and feeling them. I think I'm trying to convince myself that I'm just losing my mind and seeing things. I don't feel any lumps in either breast. I do know that my armpits do not look the same. I have dense breast tissue, but have never had any problems on a mammogram. I'm glad I found this site as I've been trying to do 'research' on my own and that is not doing me any good. I'm hoping that some of you might be able to calm me down, but give me your honest opinion. Thank you in advance for taking time to respond.

    When is your appointment to get a mammogram?

    Yes, we have all been there: freaking out trying to figure out what it could be. Here's the thing: make an appointment and have your doctor figure it out.

    Prior to my diagnosis, I had three biopsies that turned out to be NOTHING. And those weren't even for lumps! I had dense breast tissue, and I was always feeling weird things; so much so, that I just got regular doctor breast exams and stopped trying to figure it out. Your armpit lump could be swollen lymph glands from a passing virus, or dense breast tissue, or something else. I promise you this: You will NOT be able to figure it out, so stop trying. Go to the doctor.

    And if the doctor can't be sure, she will order a mammogram, and maybe an ultrasound. You know why? Because sometimes a doctor can't even tell.

    My best advice to myself while going through tests was this: if the doctor knew, she wouldn't need to do tests; and if she doesn't know, I REALLY don't know.

    So go get it checked and until then distract yourself with an activity. Get out of your head. And come back and update us. :)

    Hi. Thank you for your response. I have a mammogram scheduled the first week of August, so I don't have to wait too long. It's amazing what you can read on the internet and think you basically have something horrible. I will keep you posted. Thanks again.

    Thanks for helping me calm down. I'm going to try to not look up anything until I have my mammogram. There are just way too many bad things that I'm starting to think I have. I will keep you posted.

    Yoi should see your doctor about this BEFORE the mammogram. He will need to order a diagnostic mammogram, rather than a screening mammogram. Diagnostic mammos are more detailed than screening mammos--they're used when there is a lump or other abnormal findings.

    hello everyone, I am new here, I am hoping that by writing on this it will help calm my anxiety, back in may I had a mammogram/ultra sound on left breast, no mass was detected but increased density with slight architectural distortion was shown, the results..bi rad 0, mri with contrast needed. I had the mri done and it showed nonmass like ductallik subsegmental like enhancement... birads 3, within 2 weeks my upper left breast looks as though someone has taken a hammer to it, hard flat spots, I called my doctor and I am now scheduled for another series of mammogram/ultrasound July 23 and meet with breast surgeon August 2, two weeks ago I noticed a tender spot in my armpit now i can feel a lump and my aeola looks swollen with prominent vein running above and through it, sorry this is so long, I am 42, married with two children, I haven’t told anyone because I don’t want to put unneeded stress on them, thank you to anyone who reads this long thread
