Waiting for referral, very stressed and worried (28)

hi lovely people. I've been Reading posts on here for a while now and wanted to reach out as I'm feeling very worried and stressed at the moment.

I went to see my GP last week after having breast pain and discomfort. She said at first she suspected it was nothing serious and was muscular in nature but upon performing a breast exam she said she felt some 'lumpiness' on the left breast.

She said there wasn't any single lump she could feel/grab but a thickened and lumpy texture.

She referred me to a 16-29 Breast Clinic under 'Symptomatic' urgent referral. She said I'd be seen within 2 weeks. I'm still waiting to hear but am really struggling.

I know there's lots of benign breast conditions but honestly I'm really struggling to stay calm. I had stage 3 pre-cancerous cervical cells removed 6 months ago and am awaiting results to see if that treatment was successful/if things are normal now so this is already a very tough time health wise for me.

any support or guidance on how to cope with the stress of waiting would be very much appreciated.

Also does anyone know why she specifically stated it was a 16-29 breast clinic? I wasn't aware there were seperate ones until then. Does anyone know how they differ?

Thank you in advance xx

I've never heard of a 16-29 clinic. Where do you live? Is that ages

Never heard if that clinic, but i just wanted to reassure you that cervical cancer is in no way related to breast cancer, so it won't increase your risk. IMO, the waiting, just not knowing, is the worst. Try to keep your hands busy while you wait. Busy hands make for a busy mind. Hopefully, they'll get you in soon.

    Hi there.

    Thanks both for your comments.

MellissaDallas- I live in the UK. It seems that definitely refers to ages as I've noticed it's been printed on my referral letter also 'Young Women [16-29]' followed by a hospital name the rest of the referral code. Google hasn't turned up much so I'm wondering if it's just an area specific way of processing things in the UK health system

Thanks Mustlovepoodles, I'm so glad there is nothing linking the two. It's a lot to deal with both though. The waiting is definitely difficult. I've made the mistake of reading lots on google and scaring myself so now I'm just trying to keep busy and occupied. I really hope they call me soon. I was due to go on a lovely holiday next week so I really need to go in before then. Hope I still get to go x

Ah, yes. Google--scaring people since 1998. Not your friend, milady.

    hi! Hope you’re doing ok!

I had stage 3 cervical cells removed in 2007...and I’ve been clear since 😃

I have always had dense breasts, had multiple ultrasounds and comprehensive mammos, starting at 28 and I’m now 39.

This past Friday I had another mammo, got a call back and now waiting for my previous mammos to be received from another clinic (I moved) and see what is next.

The waiting is the worst...I hope you get the best results!!!
