Anyone else "Why me AGAIN?"
I was just diagnosed Monday. I'm already on disability for two other life altering medical issues*. The silver lining is that it's helping me take this in stride, but I can't shake the feeling of, "Who the hell did I piss off in a former life?"
*
1. Digestive issues that debilitate often and sometimes require hospitalization for NG tube
2. Seizures that temporarily affect my legs, requiring a wheelchair, etc.

I’m sorry. I get it. Some people seem to have the best luck, while others suffer. Life is really sh*tty in that regard. Unfair. I wish you the best 💗💞

I hear you. I also have multiple sclerosis and just got a de novo Stage IV breast cancer diagnosis. I, too, wonder who I pissed off so badly. They say that God pays you back doubly for any hardships you endure, so I am looking forward to that return on investment. : )

I definitly struggle with the "why bad things happen to good people" all while crappy people walk around healthy as a horse. People say my treasure is being stored in heaven, I expect it to be something great, that's for sure!!

Hi Soozy,
You may have already found this forum but I'll share it with you....it's for those of us with other medical problems and now on top of it, cancer.
https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/142
You may find some really good support and comfort there.
Hugs,

You know, i felt this way, briefly. I've had multiple medical crises and trauma in my life. I felt pretty sorry for myself for a while there. And then I had a thought: why NOT me? What makes me so special that i shouldnt get cancer? Sometimes life just sucks, and cancer is one of the suckiest parts. Foo!
Its a hard thing, having cancer when you've already got so many other serious health issues. I'm really sorry you're going through this. Its not fair.

I never thought why me but I did question our priest about the “God doesn’t give you more than you can handle” and our priest responded “who do you think gets you through it?
It’s understandable to be bitter but bottom line is it is what it is. We just drew the unlucky card.

Edwards, that's the kind of ststement that gets my back up. My DH liked to say, "It can always be worse." Yeah? Well, it can always be better! *one finger salute* He genuinely thought that would make me feel better(!), but eventually stopped saying it after my BMX went all kinds of wrong.

Agree mustlove. It’s like we have no right to be upset or angry about contracting this insidious disease and for the record one we will have to live with for the rest of our lives. No cure and no guarantees. I told my MO we are branded with the C word so we will be looking over our shoulder forever. People act like it’s a cold. Okay you’ve had surgery and treatments so you are fixed. If only...

Thank you all and special thanks to Claire for the group recommendation. I didn't know about that group, but am excited to check it out. I'm also going to try to read your story, because it looks like you were faced with diagnosis very similar to mine.

Soozy, I'm on BC.org on and off, but usually not a week goes by that I don't check in. Please feel free to private message me about anything, and I'll respond when I see your message.
The best, and most simple advice I got from a mentor-colleague-friend: this is just a bump in the road. It will pass--we may find ourselves on a bit of a different road afterward, but the high anxiety, disappointment, and abject fear doesn't last. There will come a day when you don't think about b.c. every waking moment, and you can a good life in spite of this latest bump.
Hugs.
