Hoping you are still on here! I see your post is from a few years ago. I'm wondering if your tumor growth at 28% in one month is typical of HER2+ tumors. I had my mammogram one month ago and have since been diagnosed with IDC, HER2+. Feeling a little panicky for treatment to start!!

Lori - don't look for an answer from someone who posted in 2014.

When I was diagnosed HER2+ I had two trips planned. First was a week in NYC planned for a month after I first saw my MO - already a month after confirmation of my diagnosis. My MO was receptive to my delaying chemo until after that trip. Second was a cruise to Alaska 3 months in the future. Of course we couldn't postpone treatment that long, but he did not want me to go anyway & be that far away from treatment in the middle of the cycles.

Don't worry about a month or two. There is no 'normal' with cancer. We are all different. Take the time to get the team you want in place and get all your questions answered.

Be hopeful. I am 6 and a half years from surgery. Over 5 years from finishing herceptin. I also was very pessimistic and never thought I would be here now. Just look at my stats below!

One thing I am doing is to exercise every other day, I found a gym buddy and we make each other go. I drink sencha green tea several times a day, lots of fruit and vegetables, especially berries. I try to use a lot of turmeric on food. No supplemental medications. I have no way of knowing of what is or is not making a difference, but I think that the above actions I am taking are not harmful and hopefully helpful .

I think the exercise might be the most important thing. And herceptin of course! It has been a game changer with this disease. It does not work 100% of the time, but I think that is because cancer is such a complex disease and there are so many variables at play. But I think for people with HER2 cancer, things are getting better all the time. So be hopeful.

I have,Her2 + Breast cancer and just finished 12 cycles of weekly taxol and am now on Herceptin only every 3 weeks. I have no idea what to expect. I just know I’ve been so sick and feel like an atomic bomb went off inside my body.

Is there typically a five year mortality rate with this DX?

    Thank you

Createhope, this type of cancer has now the same statistics as hormone positive cancer. Herceptin is a pretty mighty immunotherapy drug, if works for you. So depends on the cancer stage the surviving rate is now 98%, 94%,75% and 30% for stage I, Ii, III and IV, respectively. Or somewhere close to these numbers.

It has been 1 year and 3 months since my Diagnosis I have been treated with a Whey Protien Glutathion booster for over a year after my HER2 positive breast cancer. It definitely made a difference in how I responded to Chemo and Radiation treatment. Minimal side effects. Was also on Herceptin for 1 year and finished May 24th.

A week ago today I was told there were 2 1 cm nodules in my lung and I am now considered Menastitized and beginning Temoxifen and Kadcyla. Has anyone else begun this treatment. How has it worked for you?

It is so great to hear about the success of herceptin and perjeta. I too have been worried sick about survival rates for ER-PR Neg HER2+. I am having a mastectomy next week and chemo with herceptin and perjeta will follow about a month later. Definitely afraid of how chemo will make me feel as I am 63 years old and not sure how I will tolerate it. I am stage 2 IDC with DCIS. Wishing everyone one a long healthy life. (((Hugs)))
