Hi everyone!

I'm on day 2 of post op, had a partial mastectomy (about half gone) and I'm still oozing the blue dye they injected to help find the lymph nodes....is this normal

Do you have drains? Is it just oozing out the incision? Any signs of infection? Is it mixed with blood or serous fluid?

Fwiw, some surgeons use a LOT of the blue dye. I'm 6 months past my lumpectomy and still have a big blue splotch on the skin of of my breast. Smurf breast I call it. It fades eventually but it's very persistent.

    Hi Moth.

No drains.I'm still covered in bandages, so can't see incisions. But blue is still leaking through them.

Hi Krysm Did you take a bath ? Maybe the wetness is causing it .Ideally it should be dry

nope still no bath/shower. Have to wait 72 hours. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have gotten checked. I can take off bandages tomorrow. So will be able to see incisions, which is a whole other scary thing

Honestly I'd call the surgeon's office right now and ask the question to their answering service. Hopefully the surgeon or their locum will give you a call back.

Nurses doing post op for breast surgery don't like to see bandages that are moist or leaking anything. The dressing should be dry. Bandages which have discharge normally need to be changed and the incision examined because it sounds like it's not staying shut. Still leaking blue dye from unhealed incision a month later. The dye itself can be causing tissue death from what I've read.

Krsym7, please go to doctor immediately. I had this happen. Then about a week later that area turned to cell necrosis. Completely black. They had to do a debriedment on me weekly and it delayed my reconstruction. The home health care nurses did not instruct me to take care of it immediately. I had an appt. With the doctor and felt I could wait to ask him what was happening.
