Is anyone part of the MD Anderson OPAL clinical study?

"Optimizing Preventative Adjuvant Linac-based Radiation: the OPAL Trial A Phase II Study of Hypofractionated Partial Breast Irradiation in Women with Early Stage Breast Cancer"

There are certain parameters for a patient to be eligible to participate. I do have the option and have to decide right away. My other choice is a 20 session (4 weeks) whole breast irradiation plan.

Any thoughts? Comments?

Hi Lorreo and welcome to Breastcancer.org!

We're hopeful you'll get some good responses and interest here, so you can meet others who may be considering this trial as well. In the meantime, you may also want to post on the Clinical Trials, Research, News, and Study Results forum to see if anyone there has any insight.

We hope this helps! Please keep us posted on what you decide!

I hadn't heard of this. I wouldn't have been eligible. What did you decide? I would consider joining a trial if I had the option

I decided to do it, I thought it could be the better option for me than whole breast since my tumor was just 1.3 cm and was stage 1A, so I'm hoping it's the best decision. I start on July 5. Anxiety is beginning to settle in -- just the thought of having any type of radiation even though I believe I should have it. How did you do in your treatment?

I had 15 treatments + 5 boosts (last one Monday). The fatigue got me early, but that’s not so bad. This last week though has been painful. I wish you the best
